As a scientist, I have to say that most Sid episodes are actually pretty good about teaching basic science skills and answering simple questions (although it depends on how old your child is as to how much he/she takes away from the show). I can live with that since my child actually gets something from it as opposed to Caillou and other pointless shows.

I don't think Caillou is pointless. I think it helps reinforce social-emotional skills. My 3 year old nephew loves Caillou.

Any adult over the age of nine SHOULD find DTE annoying-but the kids love it and it gets us grown ups to buy things-and isn't that what's important here?

i barely know english and i notice how badly written your post is. how could we expect you would appreciate good quality shows for children anyway, right?

WTF is wrong with you people? I hate cartoons, in general, but Dora is AWESOME. My DD (almost 4) has looooved Dora since she was 2 y.o. Yeah, the voices are kind of annoying but she is pretty positive cartoon character and my DD has learned lots from her. Lots of Spanish words. And, the Dora books are great for teaching things.

Good lord, some of you are tough customers.

As for the PBS/Sprout poster (no Disney/Nick Jr.) that's just a distinction w/o any sort of meaningful difference. But, keep patting yourself on the back.

For me, Dora is the most bearable. I could really give two shits about Kai-Lan and her feelings. That show bores even my 2 year old. Ughh. DD is obsessed with the Fresh Beat Band and after watching that show I want to scratch my eyes out. Dora is so bad it's funny to me now but I cannot take another episode of the Fresh Beat Band.
