Would lie about where you live...

23:27 - the authorities can find out very easily if the child is over for "milk and cookies" or more than that. I have known people busted. It is totally not worth it.

Public education in the school district in which you live. By some of the reasoning on this thread, it would be all right if you simply throw people out of their homes and you and your family take over. You want better schools then work with your school board and stop waiting for everyone else to do the work you should be doing to have better schools in your district. Too many parents are simply lazy and do nothing and expect to get everything handed to them. That isn't the way it works. There are rules and if you break them then there are consequences. If you can't do the time then don't do the crime.

Your house is your property and you own it. On the other hand, public school is not your personal property, so please stop giving the impression that you own it. Every citizen is entitled to get the same level of education no matter what socioeconomic class they belong to. And if the government and state have failed to offer a uniform education throughout the state/country, then hell yeah parents do have right to get their kids attend the school of their choice whether they live in that area or not. State/US government is at a bigger mistake than the 'liar' parents.

I was replying to someone who suggested that another poster, who was not a school official, make the call themselves, and that there was no way that the divorced parent story could be true. Yes, school officials can and should investigate. Parents, should butt out.

You are confusing Democracy with Communism. Why don't you move to China?

Well the irony is, now that they sent the mother too jail, the kids will have to live with their grandfather. In the correct school district.

Well, at long last, they are legally attending a better school. Why didn't the mother simply move in with the grandfather and they could have attended legally. Now she is in jail with a felony conviction and it will be ext toimpossible for her to ever get a decent job again.

If someone calls a school and reports that a child doesn't live in that school district there will be an investigation. The most distubing aspect of this thread is that so many PPs have no compunction whatsoever about being dishonest. "The end does not justify the means."

And you are confusing democracy with social Darwinism. I bet Hitler was your best friend.
If you think your child should be getting superior education because he/she belongs to a superior social class, get him/her enrolled in a private school and spare us and the public schools from your narrow minded mentality. Jeez.

The punishment far outweighs the crime here in my opinion. I used to work in the DC courts and saw many people who committed serious acts of domestic violence and drug crimes get far less punishment than this woman did. Some of them even get a chance to expunge their record. She should have gotten probation at the most and convicting her of a felony that affects her livelihood and her right to vote is ridiculous. I mean be real we don't even have room in our prisons for the real criminals committing violent acts and you all are talking about locking people up. Sometimes I think people come on here purely to talk smack. You might not agree with her choices, but she did it from a place of love and concern for her children and I think some of you would at least be able to recognize that.

As someone noted above, "It does not matter if you approve."

Oh, wait - that was you. Huh.

Can I get an amen?

That is not breaking the law, that is good parenting.

It may be good parenting, but it's still breaking the law. Maybe that law should be changed, but let's please not change the facts.

And there it is - Godwin's Law. You lose.

Yes, and since she has been unfairly labled a felon, perhaps she can go on welfare and receive a section 8 voucher and move into your school district. The state, and many people on this board, would rather this woman live on a dime than do better for her family.

Exactly. Then again, I have the feeling many on this board love to complain about black people on welfare (just like they love to complain about Hispanic anchor babies and overly strict Asian moms).

How was she unfairly labeled a felon? She knowingly committed a felon. What if she needed money for rent or food and committed armed robbeery in a bank and shot and killed someone. She should still be convicted because this is a felony. I suppose you would think this is within the bounds of reason because she was in need. We have laws and until they are changed we have to live by these laws. We are not allowed to pick and choose laws we like and to disobey those with which we do not agree. This creates anarchy.

I would personally pay for the PI. Or several. No problem. Totally worth it. In fact, this might be a new business venture. Thanks for the idea.

Don't you realize people who pay higher property taxes are subsidizing the rest of the county as it is? And their supposed to take your crap? I don't think so.
