My parents did this to me too.
My grandma did before and after care for us and she gave grandma's address so we could go to a school close to grandma's house. The bus dropped and picked us up from her doorsteps. |

There are so many yuppies trying to find a way into our neighborhood school...I know of at least 4 families that lied about resIdency. I loved to turn them in. We paid 7 figures to secure a spot for our kids and theSe fraudulent liars are taking up resources and increasing class ratios.
Jail to all of them. |
| I am bringing this up with our principal. Crack down time! Time to smoke out the criminals. We've go e from 2 K classes to 5 k classes in 3 years. I don't think the rEsidency/population growth in our neighborhood supports this growth. |
| Lock them up!!! |

23:52 - No kidding. Turn their asses in. Our schools are getting more and more crowded, it's so obvious why. How can that possibly be fair to those of us who bust our ass to be in a certain area. The ones that are defensive and/or playing semantics games seem pretty guilty themselves. I am fine with the idea of criminal records for the offenders. They know very well they are in the wrong. It is so easy to get caught. Don't be surprised. You expect your kid to never slip up? No matter how much you coach them? Think again. |
| PP here. The county does not have to wait for you to answer the door, BTW. There are many, many ways to be caught. Don't think you are too smart. You're not. |
| Renting a property and not living in it also falls into criminal offense. Investigative go in the resideNce (with warrant) to see if the child's belongings are there. |
It's easy for the other parents to determine the kids aren't in the school's boundaries... Playdates, bday Parties, etc |
| No. |
I feel strongly about not teaching kids to lie by example, but I do think the situation you've given is different. In fact, when parents work, I'm glad that a loving grandparent is helping out with child care and giving that kind of stability to their lives. |
| I see plenty of cars with Maryland license plates dropping off children at my neighborhood elementary school in Alexandria. I have been told that they are divorced moms and dads who live in Maryland but that their children's primary homes are in that school district in Alexandria. |
Then you should report them because VA law is that you have to switch to VA tags and state driver's license within 30 days. |
I don't think this is all right because they did not live with their grandmother and children are assigned to attend schools in the area of their permanent residency. If I live in DC and want my kids to go to school in Fairfax County and their grandmother or other reltive lives there and takes care of them after school, this isn't their permanent residence and it is grossly unfair (and illegal) to the residents who pay high taxes for their children to attend these schools and someone else to pay nothing. I'd report anyone I saw with an out of state license in a heartbeat. I pay for my kids to go to school and so can they. |
You don't have to steal if your children are hungry because you can apply for food stamps and/or go to area food banks. |
Dad lives in VA, mom in MD. Mom drops the kids off at the VA school ... how the heck is that illegal? Kids figure out what's going on by the upper ES level even if you keep it a secret. Also do you really want your kid in K-3 talking about where they live? You gotta coach them. Childcare concerns are a reason you can transfer elementary schools, one of my friends went to Watkins Mill HS despite living in the Gaithersburg zone. From what I hear, one isn't more desirable than the other now.
