What are you hearing about the snow that's coming?

Not to sidetrack the "I'm more used to snow then you are" argument... but how much snow did DC/MD get?

I'm out of state (in CT) and we're currently getting a bonafide blizzard from the snow so we postponed traveling (driving) back for the time being.

Wondering what to expect when we get closer to home...

Not even an inch yet. More like a sparse dusting.

Oh then that's nothing. I had heard that they were saying anywhere from 3-10 inches for DC depending how the storm shifted.

We're supposed to get over a foot here, and it's nasty outside - blizzard for tonight and tomorrow morning. Guess we'll see how everything looks between CT and DC tomorrow afternoon.

But -- many of the other drivers around here on snowy roads *DO* scare me.

EXACTLY. I'm from MN, and people there have enough of a clue to either stay off the roads until the plows go through, or, if they must go out, they slow down, know how to brake on slippery roads, and know how to countersteer if they start fishtailing.

Around here? You've got a bunch of idiots barreling down the road thinking their SUVs make them invincible. THAT's what really scares me.

A couple of years ago DH and I lived in an apartment building that gave us a great vantage point on a busy intersection. During a snow storm, you wouldn't believe how many morons got their SUV's stuck and needed help getting out because they didn't realize that they had to turn the 4x4 on, or how to do it.

You're just mouthing dumb, outdated stereotypes. Any original thoughts rattling around in there?

We're in NYC - nearly a foot so far! Not sure if we'll make it back to DC tomorrow. The NJ Turnpike looks bad - 24 inches expected in Jersey.

We're in Boston, MA and are also getting pummeled.

Well this was disappointing... had a lot of talk, big build up, started to get a little exciting, it became 4 to 6 inches, then even larger -- almost 12 inches, then it misses its target. Now it has petered out so much that you can barely see it.

Oh, um... yeah... and there only a little snow at our house...

We got nothing in Rockville.

In Bethesda. How am going to look into my kids' eyes in the morning? We have sleds and snow boots waiting by the door.

have to agree about drivers in DC and snow. We lived in Upstate NY and no one in this area knows how to drive in snow. (nor rain either!)

1:10 I am so sorry for you. Know that we are thinking of you and hoping you will be able to gently explain to your children that sometimes life is harsh and cruel and they don't get 2 inches of snow.

Normally I'm fine with snow, but I hate having to travel in it! The NJ turnpike does look really bad - lots of accidents and delays.

Fortunately the route we take from CT takes us around 95 and we're only in NJ for about 10-15 minutes and we don't take the NJ turnpike. It also takes us further west (past Allentown PA) which didn't get as much snow. Hopefully that means our trip won't be too bad once we get out of CT and NY.

I'm bummed we didn't at least get anything sleddable.
