How long could you survive if you were trapped in your house?

I said on the first page that we survived for nearly 4 years with no water, no power, and for a good chunk of that the pipes froze so we didn't have the ability to flush the waste either. It is horrendous but it doesn't kill you. Other than a nuclear disaster, which also doesn't last forever if you survive, you can go out and get water and food.

I am so sorry that you had to live through that horrendous war. Nothing we imagine would compare to that.

Thank you. Sometimes it feels surreal to me, too.

I also don't want to live when I have to drink water from toilet tank and can't get rid of my shit.

Until you're put in that situation and then you very much want to live.

Do you think people in Gaza are just committing suicide?

I don't have to commit suicide, no water would kill me quickly. 3 -7 days?

It wouldn't if you boil it.

How do you boil zero water?

You don't. I was responding to the poster who said she would die from drinking the water out of her toilet and tank.

Got me to thinking about how long we could survive in our house if we couldn't leave but still had electricity and water. We currently have 3 full fridges with attached freezers, plus a chest freezer and a tall freezer. Plus a full pantry and additional excess food in the basement pantry. We are a family of 5. I would think we could make it at least a year? Maybe more if we actually rationed our food.

What happens to all of the food in the fridges and freezers when you lose power?

OP here - we have a natural gas generator. So it will do until the natural gas goes out. Whole house generator.

You're just one of those weird survivalist people who likes imagining being in a catastrophe and shifting into survival mode. Try out for a reality tv show or build a million dollar bunker to get your fix.

Don't you have to go outside to start your generator?

Having a generator is pretty normal in this area. My parents have a whole house generator and I have a smaller generator myself. I use it to keep the fridge going in the event of a power outage so I don't lose my food. It's already paid for itself!
