OK, your status symbol is virtue signalling as a "do-gooder" . Cool. But your bag is still very much a status symbol, just a different one.

Net worth around $20mm. I have a collection of luxury bags and lately prefer nice handbags from non-luxury brands. I have Dior, Chanel, Hermes (not Birkin or Kelly), Bottega, YSL, Loewe, LV, Goyard and Delvaux (amazing quality). I use my Hunting Season and Savette bags more frequently than the luxury ones and can’t imagine purchasing any more big name luxury bags.

They obviously go to Target and buy a $20 bag and carry it around for 6 months until the pleather starts peeling and flaking off.

There are very many medium priced brands, and also some people simply don't carry handbags and carry backpacks or briefcases or totes for work. They may also have one fancy bag for the dinners out. There are people who love handbags and fancy totes and those who don't.

But there is also a lot of virtue signalling on part of people who can effortlessly afford luxury bags but out of some weird principal do not buy one, or maybe some psychological handicap like scarcity mentality.

Honestly, if someone says to me that the reason they live in their 3+ mil home and have 10 mil NW or whatever is because they never spent money on silly things like designer bags and never owned one, I'll say they are bad at math. Or petty, or think others are stupider than them

Love this!

This person should not have bothered responding on the thread if they don’t own a luxury bag. That was the premise.

How could they miss a great trolling opportunity for a fake virtue signal story

Wondering where are the Birkin/kelly wearing posters?

It seems that the DCUM crowd is not fond of Hermes or that those who are don’t come on here.

Some of us prefer to buy for functionality vice name brand. I am very specific about what I want in a handbag (pockets in the right place, type of leather, etc.). I despise pebbled leather and coated canvas, which is what most handbags seem to be made of. I prefer soft, supple leather and I like to have pockets for my things. I will not shell out thousands of dollars for an LV coated canvas bag with no pockets.

This is exactly what I am looking for and can never find. I want pockets that zip on the outside for my phone and keys and more pockets inside. Do you have any links?

How do you guys know your NW off the top of your head? Do you have a dashboard you monitor? I’d have to log into my accounts and add everything up.

I assume people are estimating. I add up all my accounts quarterly so I have a general number in my head.

I'm all for people having whatever bag they want, but when they start to talk about "quality" that's a big red flag. You can get bags of very high quality and craftsmanship for far less money than luxury brands, and you can get all of the utilitarian value for next to nothing.

I’m surprised the Hermes in DC stays in business. If we ever hear they leave City Center, I assume DCUM will be thrilled. Wouldn’t want top tier shopping in our city or anything.

It’s a shame how stuff like that impacts purchasing decisions for life. I’m the same with expensive vehicles for similar reasons.

That is crazy. Where was this? What bag was your friend wearing? Did the perps follow her home?

Was she an influencer? I follow one who keeps her fancy bags in a vault.

Our financial advisor has a dashboard and I check it every day.
