Yep. Practically 100% of Princeton and Yale admits from Sidwell are legacy. Don’t let the IG page fool you. P+Y are wasted applications if you are not a “best student I’ve ever had” or type of applicant. |
But in DMV, everyone else is an Ivy Leaguer. So many parents in these schools are legacy. Why only Sidwell achieves such good outcome with Ivies? |
100%. I think it might be less money if the kid is on the borderline. |
I suspect college admission is harder for girls. Any evidence of that? |
What about lower ivys? |
I’ve seen non-legacies be much more successful at other Ivies, especially Penn, Columbia, and Cornell. Harvard usually takes 1-2 non-legacies each year too. |
| GROSS |
| The current senior class has 137 kids in the grade and 73 have posted. Know a bunch of kids doing admitted students tours last weekend and this coming weekend who are still making up their minds. Some who are pending waitlists. And some who just aren’t the types to post. |
Can you explain how posting where you're going to college on Instagram increases your chances of being raped or trafficked? I truly do not understand. The majority of rapes are by someone the woman knows and the women most vulnerable to trafficking are those trying to escape trauma/dysfunction at home. None of that is related to an Instagram post. |
| Privacy, or lack of it, is related to Instagram posts. Some people do not want to announce to a world of strangers their name, what they look like, and where you can find them. By inference, their approximate age as well. |
Agree. I don’t understand why anyone would post this, especially as kids become more savvy about their digital footprint and as social media becomes more cringe. My kid will be applying next year and would never put their results up publicly. |
As someone with a family member recently on the admissions board at an Ivy, legacies don't have the pull they used to unless they're accompanied by a huge check. Like, library-expansion money. |
Sidwell does NOT bump up grades...sometimes it feels like they purposefully make it harder for students. Sidwell so far has not done great this year with the Ivies, I am surprised people are staying that...the ones who did get in to certain schools used connections...the two Harvard admits are purely deserving and great students...some of the rest? Not so much |
I agree, but one of the Harvard admits was connections-based. So, we can't say for sure whether they would've gotten in on pure merit. In totality, there are probably 3 Ivy admits that were based on pure merit. |
There is at least one GDS senior who has not posted their Ivy admission because of family concerns over privacy. Ultimately, though, who cares? This thread is pathetic. |
