GDS college enrolmments

It's pretty bad and far behind Sidwell in the top 20, and Ivy admits, at least until now. Hope a few Ivy admits will post on IG.

Remember, it all depends on who the parents are in the grade. When you have a less connected group the results dip.

They haven't posted anything to the IG in a while... that doesn't mean more admits haven't happened. I know at least a handful of families who do not plan to let their children post there.

I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but yes, Sidwell is at a different level compared to GDS. Based on their results this year, most would not consider it “Big 3” or whatever. I remember that when GDS had 6 or 7 to Harvard two years ago, somebody posted that all but one kid was a legacy.

Being a legacy at an Ivy League school is NOT a real hook. I went to 3 different Ivy League schools and my kids will not have a leg up. You have to give at significant levels and be an alum for it to matter. I would say at least 500k to get a second glance on your app. Probably at least a million.

I don’t think it’s a hook in the same vein at URM, Athlete, Development, Faculty Kid, etc, but I think it helps if your kid has the stats to get in and applies ED. Maybe instead of a 10% chance, they have a 20% chance. But we also know legacies with goods who apply ED who don’t get in.

Please stop with this.

I'm a GDS parent of a younger child. I'm really pleased with the education my kid is getting, but I was surprised how few ivy ED admits were announced. I wonder if those accepted to top schools RD were accepted but multiple schools, so haven't decided/posted yet.

Lame parent post alert.

Look out for acceptances at schools that don’t use legacy admission, such as MIT, JHU, Berkeley, Amherst, CalTech, and CMU. You know those kids didn’t have a legacy hook

GDS's Insta this year showed admits Harvard, MIT, Yale, Stanford, etc. Lots to Chicago as well. Is that meant to be a bad result?

Legacy is really only undergraduate.

Harvard and Yale are legacies. Chicago always likes private school kids.

True. However, GDS has about 25 more seniors than Sidwell, yet Sidwell is sending 3x more students to Ivy Plus schools this year (based on IG posts). That’s a big difference.

It is not at all a bad result. But it is worse than Sidwell but on par with Maret and even some local Public schools in Maryland in the ratio of Ivy top 15 schools. Just a fact. No judgments. It might or might not reflects at all about the education.
