VT wants to be considered a peer of UVA so badly that it is embarrassing.

VT is closer to JMU than VT…my DS was accepted at both but not UVA and chose JMU btw…

Not long ago JMU wasn’t R1 and was FCS for football. VT achieved those milestones long before JMU. From a research and athletics standpoint, it’s not close.

Yet. VT won’t even play JMU in football because they can’t win. Give JMU 5-10 more years as a R1 and we shall see….

You’re in the sunbelt lol It’s actually because of changes to how the big conferences schedule, you clearly wouldn’t understand. Also, how’s PhD production going at JMU? Research VT PhD output and report back.

No one was happier than VT AD Whit Babcock(JMU alum) that the ACC gave him an off-ramp to weasel out of the JMU game. By all means, keep VMI on the schedule. HAHAHAHAHA!

As for PhDs, JMU concentrates on undergrad excellence. It’s why USNWR ranks JMU #22 for Best Undergrad Teaching, just ahead of Georgetown, but further ahead of UVA, Harvard, Berkeley and UCLA. Sadly VT didn’t make the list.

You can’t have it both ways. If you want to be a big boy, you’ll need to ramp up research and PhD production. As for football, I hope you like your FCS titles because you’ll never win one in the big leagues.

You can’t beat JMU. LOL! You know, the first VA school to make the CFP.

Okay. Have fun in the ACC when UVA/VT leave for the B10/SEC and split away from the NCAA.

I wouldn't assume the B10/SEC would want UVA or VT. The conferences have to split revenue with the schools they bring in, so the members are reluctant to do that if the schools don't add to the TV pot. UVA is probably more likely to be picked up than VT, but they are both probably behind ND, Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Duke, and UNC in value.

That’s a lot of revenue they’ll recapture and will bring down off campus housing prices.

If people are actually willing to move back on campus after a decades long culture of expecting to move off after freshman year.

They just changed the housing requirement to 3 years at my DC’s school and built a lot of new dorms. The kids were annoyed, but it really does build community by requiring on campus housing. It also brings down housing costs for off campus rentals. I think it is great.

Interesting. I agree it’s a good thing but let’s be honest, kids go to JMU to party, not sing songs around the fireplace in the dorm. Being off campus allows underage kids to more easily party.

JMU is no more of a party school than UVA or VT; my kid has friends at all 3 and there is plenty of “fun” to be had if you want it at all 3

I know folks in northern VA really want JMU to be a “bad” school because of its higher acceptance rate but would you call Indiana a bad school? Just wondering….

JMU has excellent undergraduate teaching and excellent career outcomes so I don’t really understand the looking down at it

And by the sounds of it the plan is to be more selective than VT in the future which I 100% see happening

And the plan isn’t the ACC IYKYK….also trying to pair VT athletics with UVA is laughable

Nobody said JMU is bad. On the other hand, why would you think being more selective is something to aspire to?

People on this thread have alluded to it being on par with a community college and a place for under performing kid who want a “ traditional” college like experience. Frankly it is insulting

Yeah because that's clearly what someone meant when they said it shouldn't just cater to the UVA reject crowd like some of the people on here clearly want it to.

You should worry about beating ODU before you go conference shopping. What was the score last year? How does it feel to be the 4th or 5th best football team in VA?

Everyone, wait, listen up, the 14th place team in the ACC is talking. Soon as Enter Sandman is over fans should file out of the stadium because it’s all down hill from there.

Maybe the post meant for VT to have fun in the ACC when UVA and JMU move to a bigger boy football conference??? Or maybe they think Michael Vick is still the QB??

DP. You don’t need to put down VT. That makes you as obnoxious as the PP. I have kids at both VT and JMU and both are having great experiences. I’d be thrilled for our youngest to choose either one.

It is embarrassing when VT tries too hard to be UVA, but they're also not intentionally trying to cut their acceptance rate and would actually be more accessible than JMU after this.

VT has never tried to be UVA. Why would they? It has no need to. It’s a great school all on its own.

1. UVA will continue to be UVA

2. WM will be the go to for smart kids who want a smaller liberal arts feel college experience

3. VT will be the top choice for STEM majors (obviously, also UVA)

4. JMU will be in a power 4 conference (plans are already underway) and will be the top choice for Health Sciences/Business (obviously also UVA); JMU is already rated top 25 for undergraduate teaching and knows its needs to build up its graduate programs and research which their plan for 2040 is addressing...

I don't understand why some of the VT crowd is so pressed over the idea of JMU making plans to improve its programming, other than needing to feel superior to JMU, so VT is clearly inferior to UVA.

Oh...and VT has cancelled every scheduled football match up after losing to JMU....but keep saying it is because of the ACC schedule changes for next year....

You are really reaching here and imagining something that is not happening. I think your insecurities are getting the better of you. And btw, I have a kid at JMU and we love the school. Maybe stop putting down other schools so that you feel better?
