Yes, he was a Kennedy and they were both good looking people and it’s sad they died young (along with Lauren Bessette) but isn’t it pretty well established that their marriage was rocky at best? She was a rampant cheater (maybe he was too) and a druggie… not seeing this as some epic love story.

I agree, there is nothing noteworthy about them as individuals or as a couple. They were not interesting at all and their lives were frivolous.

They were good looking and stylish, died tragically and young and he was the son of a president. People felt they knew JFK Jr and then could wonder, what if? about him. But in reality, I think they would have divorced and he would have had a series of failures in his endeavors, not amounting to much. But at the same time also protected by the Kennedy myth. He embodied it more than anyone in his generation. (I don't believe in the Kennedy myth myself.) I think the interest comes from their looks and the fact that they died tragically. He would be about 65 now if he had lived.

I think their marriage was on the edge but might have endured, if they followed up on moving out of the city where she could have more privacy and have kids. George was going under, so hard to know what his next professional endeavor would have been. Some white shoe law firm or other, probably. Don't think he was smart enough to make it in politics, and Carolyn couldn't handle yet more scrutiny. I agree that they were unlikely to accomplish much beyond being attractive, stylish, and rich.

Are you paying attention to current politics? The majority of the current administration has an IQ of roughly room temperature. In February. In an igloo.

Many seem to agree he didn't give her the emotional support she needed, but he was under a lot of pressure with the magazine. He knew people were waiting with bated breath for him to fail, must have been hard. Maybe she should have kept working, so that she was busier and had purpose to her day beyond waiting for him to come home from work.

I think she needed a lot of support in the early years, and, like you said, he wasn't able to give enough. So sad that she started hiding out, basically afraid to go outside. He was not a good husband to her imo. Not a bad person, but focused primarily on himself because he always could.

She just wasn’t happy with the attention that came with being married to him. Jackie should have let him marry Daryl Hannah.

I remember being sad when they passed; I was in Europe on a trip in high school.

I didn't follow them that closely then, but I do feel they probably would not have lasted together as a couple. I feel they fought a lot and were not well matched in personality. She was definitely very glamorous and he was handsome but their relationship was volatile.

I had no interest in watching this and somehow finding myself pushing play when Hulu recommended it and now I’m totally absorbed.

The nail tech rumor is so weird. Even if true, can we not lose sight of the fact that JFK Junior should never have been flying that plane? It was the ultimate hubris. He didn’t have the experience or the skills.

Their relationship was even more volatile. And she's pretty nutty.

I normally love Naomi Watts, but I’m finding her portrayal of Jackie almost unwatchable. Her voice, and the constant chain-smoking is so annoying as is everything that comes out of her mouth.

They are focusing way too much on her in episode two and three.

She didn't trust JFK jr to be a pilot because she knew he was low IQ and silly. She finally agreed to fly with him since they had a short timeline for the destination and she took her sister along too.

He was flying in a cast and couldn't tell if he was going up or down...he was accelerating into the crash

I bet she was screaming at him about what an idiot he was during the process of disaster.

Jackie knew JFK jr was a dum dum and tried to shield him from running for office and being exposed. She was also very against him flying planes.

Yeah, I always wondered if they weren't fighting during the flight. We'll never know.

I don't like the way she tends to be vilified. I think marriage to him was not easy. His public charm notwithstanding, he was extremely spoiled and had a history of checking out and cheating.

A lot of photos of Jr with his mouth hanging open. A slack jaw dum dum

But unlike Caroline, Daryl was comfortable with fame and also has a lot of activist interest--she was always really into environmental causes and helping abuse victims and has been really active with different documentaries and activist projects around them. I think if he was with her, she would have probably thrown herself even more into these causes, aided by the Kennedy name.

I don’t know or really care if the nail story is true - HE was the pilot and it was on him to know and adhere to his own capabilities. It sounds like Kennedy spin anyway. Didn’t they also try to blame Lauren for leaving work too? It’s a tragedy all around but especially for her. I remember hearing at the time that JFK and CBK were barely on speaking terms at that point in the marriage and Lauren was only on that plane to be a buffer.

I’m in the camp of this marriage never would have made it long term. He wouldn’t have put up with her cheating and drug use, and she wasn’t the type to look the other way on his cheating and play along with whatever to keep up appearances.

It's ironic they were concerned about him marrying an actress considering that if you look at Daryl Hannah now, she's been married a long time to Neil Young and is generally pretty respected for her activist work and standing up to Harvey Weinstein. She turned out better than a lot of the Kennedys.

And Daryl has vocally said she's afraid of hard drugs/cocaine.

Jackie was a snob. And against actresses given the whole Marilyn M.thing.

My sister actually knew Hannah for a long time and has said she is very nice and down to earth. She is a bit quirky, but has a form of autism which probably contributes to that. But she isn't mentally ill/nutty.
