Has an immigrant ever hurt you personally?

This isn’t hurting me. But it annoys me—

I give private lessons (music/sports/tutoring—will keep it general) to kids from all kinds of backgrounds. All ages, all levels, sizes etc.

One girl I’ve been working with, I love! She is so sweet but annoyed her previous teacher with being constantly nervous. I built up her confidence. It has taken me several weeks, not unheard of. She’s almost achieved a big achievement in this music/sport.

The dad has the audacity to ask me how many more times until she gets it. Like he’s impatient that she hasn’t. In my head, “sir, your kid is not like other kids and is severely nervous.” (Pressure from you combined with coddling from you?) “I have helped her get so far in a little amount of time, she has grown in this activity, only able to practice with me.” How dare he ask me impatiently how much longer.

My point is in America we don’t push our kids. We don’t coddle our kids either.

There is a huge cultural mismatch.

When you see “better grades” I see an unfulfilled empty kid. I see my kid with all As and is happy at her sport and with her friends. She does it without pushing from me, and has free time and will get a moderate, but not perfect, SAT.

4.3 gpa and 1600 wins out on the job later?? (I don’t care about elite colleges…but I AM referring to my comment about college grads, hs grads, returning sahms that are having difficulty getting entry-level office jobs). These jobs are going to h1b hired by their own racial friends who are discriminating.

I’m confused how you knew this person’s immigration status based on this interaction. Did you speak to him? When? It doesn’t sound like he got out of the car.

These are the best examples of “illegals” hurting you? Getting honked at and parents demanding their kids learn an instrument? Why don’t y’all just admit you’re racist and you hate interacting with brown people?
