So tired of the wait

Anonymous
How’s the wait going for everyone? My student has been accepted to two schools (one was an EA for their safety and the second an EA deferral that ended up being accepted before RD decisions were released). She’s feeling good now that she has options but still waiting on six more RD decisions (one of which is another EA deferral). I know it’s going to be just fine in the end but it’s such a long wait!

We are tired of waiting for admit day! Been so boring after ED

Use your EA decisions /merit as a proxy for RD. Pretty accurate for us last cycle.

It's crawling by...and once we get RD decisions back, it's going to be a mad dash to arrange admitted student day visits. I'm honestly not sure how we're going to juggle it because both DH and I have crazy work commitments in April. We sent our older son to his ASD solo, and he ended up stuck in an airport overnight. I honestly don't want my very petite D26 trying to navigate hotel check ins, ubers and flights by herself, so we'll figure it out!

How is everyone handling schools that give priority for housing based on the date you accept and sign a housing contract? Are you just sacrificing any priority until you hear from and visit all the schools and can make a final decision? Or are you provisionally accepting at one school and switching if you get accepted at a place that is a better fit? If you are provisionally accepting somewhere, how do you talk your kid through what basically feels like a forced and premature acceptance?

My DC already got into some excellent schools, so they're enjoying the break from college essays, SAT prep, etc.

I am guessing EA USC admit with merit?

We are waiting on one RD decision, not her favorite but she would consider it if she gets in. She got into her theoretical top choice ED so we put the deposit down so she could sign the housing contract and get in line for a dorm room. It is refundable if you notify the ED school by May 1st.
She is talking to girls via Instagram looking for connections, and maybe a roommate but I am not going to lie, she is a little nervous. Admitted students day will hopefully help.

I hope you mean EA.

Oops. I did. Non-binding early action.

I hope you mean EA.

+1 and my kid is having surgery April 1 and won’t be ready to travel for two weeks- so admitted days for the EA admit will likely conflict with RD schools. Still 6 weeks to go…

To assure housing, I don't mind losing a housing deposit. Figure it's just part of the overall cost/risk you pay during the process. I am not ok with falsely claiming to accept an offer of admission though, just to get housing.

While waiting for the rest, though not many; coming back from visiting existing accepted schools (UMass, Northeastern etc). These are the most probable ones DC may accept, of the admitted. Another way to keep yourself busy while waiting.

My DC is waiting for a handful of RD decisions, but to be honest, they’ve lost interest. It feels too long to wait! They have several great EA options.

Yup, similar. DC's RD's are so reachy, they feel not really real. They're proceeding as if they're going to the best of their EA options and if by some miracle they break through in RD -- well, I suppose we'll recalibrate.

That said... I'm looking forward to removing the asterisk, yk?
