They couldn’t submit a rule change because the announcement was made by the NVSL after the deadline to submit a rule change. |
USA swimming updated the policy last year so we were on notice. |
+1 It’s not like this came out of the blue. Wasn’t it discussed at the team rep meeting after last season? |
| Other pools are welcome to step up and host. Lincolnia has given their parameters for going through the proper channels to implement this change. If other pools don’t like it, they should step up and host one of the All Star meets. |
I for one would be thrilled if ASR was just cancelled. It's a huge waste. And if Lincolnia if going to be the bad guy for that, that gives me zero heartburn. A rule change would have been NVSL giving different guidance from USA swimming, not affirming (as stated in the NVSL handbook) that USA Swimming is followed unless otherwise stipulated. |
The problem is they are incorrect in their interpretation of “proper channels” needed. |
| I disagree that they are incorrect but it’s not a problem if your team wants to host. It’s a huge lift. Your team is welcome to take it on instead of complaining. |
Again, thrilled it might not happen. Not complaining at all. Doesn't change the fact that Lincolnia is 100% wrong in their interpretation here and are acting quite pettily! |
I like ASR but IAS and that might not happen this year and I would be thrilled. It is not a fun meet. It is a ton of work and since it is after the season is over it is hard on team reps and coaches. |
Sorry. HATE IAS is what I tried to thumb type. It is also way too long of a meet for summer league. |
I don't think Lincolnia is being petty. This is an important issue with strong feelings. I don't think that there are easy solutions either. I want all children to feel included but I also do not want biological boys swimming against girls or breaking records. I feel that this is inherently unfair to all girls in athletics. Lincolnia Park is incorrect in their interpretation of NVSL rules. NVSL follows USA Swimming and they have been noodling this for a while and finally came up with their policy. VHSL is even stricter on this topic. NVSL is simply adhering to USA. The reps would have to propose a rule that counters USA Swimming which the Board never ever likes or supports but it happens. Last year we got the new false start rule which counters USA Swimming but is more in line with VHSL. So they can do that. If they are not hosting in protest to the policy I support that even though I agree with the policy. If they are not hosting because NVSL is adhering to USA swimming and they did not think last fall to counter then that would not be good. This was discussed at the fall meeting so it was not a surprise. They had opportunity to propose a rule change. |
Other than LP, who is complaining? |
Just them, and it's quite hypocritical. If they truly felt this strongly about the issue, they would sit out their whole season in protest. I think they just regretted saying yes to hosting and found a way to weasel out. |
Not from that pool but are nearby. They have hosted this event on and off for years and have done a fabulous job. They have no issue with hosting. Stop being a douche. |
The douchey thing is making a commitment and then backing out while not actually feeling strongly enough about the "injustice" to back out of the whole season. You either mean it or you don't. |
