Agreed. Trolls think it’s funny to start these threads and spread racist ideas

Most HBCUs are in the south. The majority of Black Americans in this country reside in the south. Also, there is a new great migration back to the south for many Black families. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/a-new-great-migration-is-bringing-black-americans-back-to-the-south

The article was very interesting.

Thanks, PP!

In America, black is black. Not a lot of nuance with the African and Caribbean distinction.

What does this even mean? There are massive differences between descendants of slaves and African/Caribbean students

African American is its own separate culture with its own distinct history

At some point, they’ll opt out for hbcus. When numbers drop this low, there’s a certain power dynamic over black students that drives them away.
this is the camp im in. Went to a top lac before diversity was their wheelhouse and wow…it was socially miserable, particularly in my stem major where certain kinds of students felt they were inherently better than me, since there were so few black people. I was incredibly grateful for the faculty and education I received, but I couldn’t stand the constant isolation and the way other students tried to further minimize me.

Was there a racial preference in admissions?

I'm baffled at how they could think their better than you. Unless it was just basic white supremacy crap.

It's human nature to single out differences from the majority group and in-group, this goes beyond race, although race is the most noticeable, it's really bully culture,

I mean even though AA is gone, the stigma of you got in because you're black has not gone away

Duke was one of the few schools to see black admissions after SFFA.
Then SFFA threatened to sue Duke and they stopped cheating.

Blum also sued a Black investment fund that awarded Black women business with grants, saying it was discrimination because it excluded White Women

And is that not discrimination?

I'm sorry you went through this. Unfortunately, I think SLACs will revert back to those days. I don't think students in the majority (white students) have any appreciation for what a negative thing it is to be in an echo chamber of a PWI to themselves, much less the minority students of color. They may have felt defensive or vulnerable when diversity was being emphasized, but it was making them better and giving them a wider perspective. Too bad they bought into the anxiety of scarcity and "losing opportunities" to diverse colleagues and got caught up in the anxiety of scarcity. Their fear and paranoia was probably used against them but they bought into that fear, and now they will also miss out.

Worth noting that “they” (“white students”) didn’t buy into the anxiety of scarcity or “losing opportunities.”

Unless of course you’re good with attributing actions and feelings to people based solely on their race.

Because the reality is that a small group of students (egged on by conservative groups) brought the case that changed the law. Oh and that small group of students? They weren’t white.

How DARE they fight against discrimination. Monsters!!!!

I've always taken the stance that reparations should go to HBCU, take the top 25 HBCU and give 1 billion each

And where does the other $975B go?

If HBCU have money, black wealth would double

Your not wrong. HBCUs have done more to create the black middle class than the entire Ivy+ combined

Who says they aren’t? This is a weirdly racist post.

Pet reviewed research is saying they aren't.
