Active shooter on Brown campus

My son’s campus had a hoax this fall with reports of a shooter in the library. He was evacuated and called me as he was being escorted by police out of the building. I was going out of my mind. These poor kids and parents. Absolutely devastating.

This was terrible at the Claremont colleges. The radio silence from institutions (rightfully because they can’t figure out things immediately) is what really makes everything so scary. Praying for every Brown university family.

Thank you.

Campus safety is often discussed on this page. As is “woke” teaching. As is DEI. Many political topics are relevant to college choice/life. Guns need to stop getting a pass.

You misspelled gun control.

ah yes gun control because criminals will willingly give up their guns

My kid is on Brown EMS but wasn’t working, was in a final. He’s helping police organize people in their building, they are still shattering in place. This is horrifying. Don’t know why I looked on here, restless until I pray suspect is found.

I have to agree.

Then they’ll just shoot the line of people queuing up to go through the metal detectors.

The second before this person went on campus and shot their gun, they may very well have been lawful. Gun owners are law abiding... until they aren't. Painting "criminals" as something foreign and unrelated to gun owners is dishonest.

Yes! FFS they haven’t caught the shooter yet and kids are in lockdown and some dead or at the hospital in critical condition.

Have some grace people.

Let’s not politicize this please.

But it IS political. Some things need to be politicized. Spare me. You don’t get to brush over your votes that allow this to keep happening! Silence isn’t the answer.

Honestly it's also not political and letting people define it as such is the problem. I've personally lived through a school shooting 20 years ago. It doesn't feel political when you're scared locked in your classroom. When your own kid is doing active shooter drills.

It's basic decency. The US accounts for 3/4th of all mass shootings in the world and we do nothing.

Heartbreaking. And you’re right that it should NOT be political. But unfortunately it is. The gun lobby owns the Republican Party. And as Sandy Hook showed us, it doesn’t matter how young, how white or how rich….they value guns over human life.

There are a lot of parents waiting for the children to come home for the holidays. You want to tell us all that we aren't allowed to talk to each other as parents? We have to put on our red and blue ties and talk about politics?

Go F yourself

How is this even being debated? Oh right, the depraved Republican party.
