Closed on Friday or early closing?

The winter weather advisory is from 4am-4pm. The snow will fall until 8:30. The high tomorrow is 33. What time do middle school buses pick up if it’s a 2 hour delay?

It would be 8:20 for us.

They don't have as many plows, as many trucks to pretreat roads, or as many buses that can run in extreme temperatures. Virginia doesn't have enough snow events to warrant having all that equipment on hand. Other than 2009-10 winter when we had multiple storms each over a foot of snow, it just doesn't happen that often. And FCPS closes for cold when buses simply won't start because it's so cold. We had a couple of Polar Vortex years that made bussing kids to school impossible a few times.

I mean, sort of. We get snow every year. The problem seems to be that every year the VA snow removal workers act like they've never dealt with snow before and either don't pre-treat the roads or don't get out there to plow in time etc. It's like a giant new surprise every year. Same things happens in DC and MD so it's not just a northern Virginia issue.

Impressive to be that wrong in a single sentence. Snow will start before sunrise and will stick immediately.

Henrico just closed, I think we’ll hear tonight

To be fair they are actually supposed to get more snow farther south,

So it could go either way I guess. Reid doesn’t seem to be one to be overly cautious and close. There isn’t going to be a lot of snow, but the timing and temperature makes it difficult to know how the roads will be. Snow and wintry mix plus freezing temperatures should be enough for a delay, but the timing could also call for a closure. But I would not be surprised if she went with an on time opening. Whatever she decides, I hope she tells us tonight.

The logical move would be to delay by 2 hours and evaluate the conditions in the morning.

They actually salted the roads around me in Vienna. I think it will be a 2-hour delay.

The roads around my DD's school are salted but someone basically just dumped a pile on each street and didn't spread it...

I've already arranged backup childcare.

I've seen this before.

Agree about the delay, but I’m curious how it will rain when the temps are in the 20s?
