MAGA- please explain…

We spend more on health care than any other country and you just want more of it.

The way other countries get there is through universal basic healthcare which ensures people get more up front, cheaper preventative healthcare and lowers need for expensive emergent healthcare. If that is what you are proposing, have at it!

Religion gives humans permission to exploit nature and each other. Science says we have a responsibility to care for the planet and each other.

There’s also a strong mistrust of authority and resentment of elites. Thanks to YouTube and TikTok, anyone can be their own scientific expert and “do their own research”, no fancy degree needed.

There it is. Political science.

That's science. No man is an island. You can't be hard working and self-sufficient without tax-built roads to get to your job.

Democrats have turned science into political science.

If you don't see it, you don't see it.

So you’re against scientific research? You didn’t actually answer OP’s question. What about scientific research conducted in other countries? Do you also not believe that?

I told you, it's not scientific research. It's political science. Get it now?

I think this poster is a perfect example of why MAGAs are okay with cutting research funding. They operate on instincts and feelings. They believe things that feel right and that validate their experiences and perceptions. They trust politicians who feel what they feel and say what they think. They dismiss facts and data that contradict what they feel is true.

They don’t trust people who contradict their views. Who is always throwing around facts and data? Democrats. Who looks down on you for voting based on your gut instincts? Democrats. Who wants to make it inconvenient and expensive for your business to dispose of toxic waste? Democrats. Which party attracts more smug voters with fancy degrees? The Democratic Party. Which party is full of big city types who derisively call the rest of America “flyover country”? The Democratic Party.

Which party supports scientific research that they will use to make policy arguments? The Democratic Party. Meanwhile, Republican politicians will say we don’t need this research and it’s a waste of tax dollars. Without new research and data, we don’t have to worry about additional burdensome regulations. Sounds like a win to people who don’t give a shit about things like avian migration patterns and don’t want to think about climate change and have never considered how weather forecasts are generated and who don’t know that years and years of research that predated the pandemic are the only reason why a vaccine could be developed so quickly.

If you're so worried about climate change, I guess you're going to need to go talk to China about building a new coal fired energy plant every two weeks instead of unilaterally hobbling the USA in search of your hopes, dreams and aspirations.

You read that entire post and “climate change” is what you got out of it?

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Government is definitely not perfect but it does do (or did) some GREAT things, like funding novel scientific research that private corporations won't touch because that baseline research is almost never profitable.

One thing the feds could clean up is not having political appointees so deep down in government. Leave them at the top. Let merit staff manage the rest.

Politicizing science means government is not perfect? That's your defense?

Maybe you need to switch the term government with the DNC.

We're seriously infested with leftist ideology. RIp it out, root and branch.

No, we are not infested. And it's not a defense. It's a rational observation based on decades of personal experience. My son with type 1 diabetes benefits from the continuous glucose monitor patch he wears and monitor on from an app on his phone. The very early research on whether enzyme based electrodes could measure glucose levels was funded by the federal government, back in the 60s and the 70s. Private companies like Abbott and Dexcom took the research after certain breakthroughs were made and developed the commercial product we use today. They profit from federal research foundational funding.

By killing research funding, we've set research back by decades. Maybe my son could have grown up to just take one pill a day that stops the auto immune attack on his pancreas. How amazing would that be? Especially for kids born 30 years from now, who wouldn't have to have needles stuck into them with the Omnipod, especially during sports. Don't get me wrong, the Omnipod is amazing. So much better than what was available when I was a kid.

And that's just it. We were making great advances in many different things over the years. No longer. We will rely on research in other nations, but they are not funded as well as we were. So much for American exceptionalism.

We're not well funded. We have a national debt of $110,000 for every person in the country. *

We're borrowing or creating out of thin-air, 50 cents of every dollar that the government spends, at our present rate.

Every dollar created brings on more inflation. Sorry to tell you, but we're out of runway.

Let private industry do the research and pay for it.

That’s not how inflation works.

“The reason we have homelessness today is because we have a Federal Reserve bank — it’s a criminal organization,” he said. “Look how homelessness is exploding. People can’t afford homes.”

Kiyosaki argued that by printing fiat currency, the Federal Reserve fuels price increases that make everyday life harder for ordinary Americans.

“When you print fake money, which this stuff is, you make life harder on people,” he said, holding up two U.S. dollar bills.

He went on to explain that money printing disproportionately benefits asset owners at the expense of the poor and middle class.

“So if you own a house and you print money, you feel, oh, the price of my house went up. But the average person sees the price of chicken and eggs and yogurt goes up and — and inflation wipes them out.”

This is such a bs argument. In the pie of climate change contributors, the US has already used up a huge chunk of that as it industrialized. We know better now and have other tech so we (in theory) use less. China and other industrializing countries are where we were in the 19th century. And we have no moral ground to tell them not to. There may be incentives, agreements, etc. but Trump is using a cudgel instead of those options.

The US won't be hobbled and we would be further along and a leader in non-fossil fuel tech but Republicans want to cater to coal and oil and gas industries and pretend we're still in the guilded age of industrialization. So you want to talk hobbled? Look to the backwards thinking of the republican party.

And you base this claim on what exactly?

Proclamations like the world is going to end and the seas will boil if we don't switch from oil to renewable energy from the DNC and all its affinity groups.

Thus, all studies going against that message are buried and unpublished, and all studies in favor of it show up in the NY Times, WAPO and the mainstream media.

Large industries are set up with artifically induced government grants from universities to put forth that message through targeted studies and private industry is heavily subsidized to roll it out.

Don't tell us it's not happening. Everyone sees it.

Where is the evidence of this?

Global temperatures ARE rising and we ARE seeing the effects. Every developed country in the world besides the U.S. acknowledges this.

How do you know all dissenting studies are being buried? Who told you? Was it Fox News?

You know what industry also gets a ton of support from the government? Oil and coal. But you don’t believe that is a problem? Why? How is it different than renewable energy in that respect.

Moreover, the push for renewable energy didn’t occur until decades after scientific consensus emerged about the threat of climate change. But, somehow, you believe this is all a conspiracy by scientists across the globe to falsify evidence decades in advance in order to create an industry that would allow completely unrelated people to benefit from the U.S. government’s meager tax incentives? You are not that stupid.

DP. Actually, if this is one PP posting all the anti-science nonsense conspiracy theories, they are that stupid. They are cuckoo.

We have homelessness today because Reagan and the GOP cut social spending on housing for the mentally ill and services for people with drug and alcohol problems. That is the core of homelessness. The rest is the consolidation of wealth that pushes most jobs to be below the poverty line.

They also bring another additional newly constructed coal fired power plant on line about every 10 days. China is the largest importer and user of both anthracite and bituminous coal on earth.

They might lead the world in solar and wind, but they lead the world in carbon-based energy production too.

Leftwing people hate data that Contradicts their views as well. It's universal.

Here's the problem that I have with MAGA: If your worldview crumbles under the weight of peer-reviewed data, whether climate change, vaccines, renewables, or economic models that show trickle-down doesn't work, and whatever else - the problem isn’t the data, the math or the science; it’s the scaffolding you built around denial.

Dismissing climate models, vaccine development, and ecological research as “elitist” doesn’t make you a rebel. It makes you a liability. The left isn’t smug for trusting experts; it’s just tired of pretending that facts are optional. You don’t get to call it “political science” just because it threatens your comfort zone. Science isn’t partisan. It’s the reason your GPS works, your weather app updates, and your medicine heals. If MAGA wants to gut research funding and call it freedom, they should be honest: it’s freedom from accountability, not freedom to thrive.

Feeling dumb is not a good feeling... makes people lash out.

I've observed this with my maga mom for years... she asks what I do, I explain, she doesn't understand it, and then she gets angry/ dismissive. Every time. She says things like "that sounds like make-work," and "sounds unnecessarily complicated... who's paying for all that??" Not only does she dismiss it, she gets mad she doesn't understand it and then she needs to attack me to rebalance things.
