Oh, you're right:

Des Moines School Board Chair Jackie Norris told reporters Monday that Roberts had been shortlisted by headhunters who conducted a criminal-background check. “There was nothing in the information that was given to us to allude to any question about his citizenship,” Norris said.

Norris previously served as White House chief of staff to first lady Michelle Obama, according to the school board website.

Taxpayer money paid his salary and benefits for years, diverting funds from qualified workers.

Parents expect role models in schools, not someone with gun charges, deportation orders, and false documents.

Allowing this undermines trust in public education and sets a bad example for children.

Being on Maryland’s voter rolls as a noncitizen raises real concerns about election security.

Even if he never voted, the possibility erodes confidence in the system.

Hiring him put students and staff at risk given his prior criminal history.

It showed clear failures in background checks and verification systems.

Letting it slide signals that breaking immigration, employment, and election laws has no consequences.

So when businessmen literally take thousands of jobs away and make billions of dollars, that is ok because they are citizens, but when this guy has a career in public service, he is taking someone else’s job.

Hmm.

The what aboutism doesn’t matter here. He claims at various times to have attended Georgetown MBA school, MIT and a certificate course at Harvard (all likely untrue). You can’t get away with these kind of fabrications with a high profile public job. Query why Biden’s DHS took him to court to obtain a removal order in 2024. They had to view him as a significant political liability, which now certainly seems to be the case. Note he did not show up to his April 2024 hearing which resulted in a removal order thereafter. It is hard to argue there was no due process when the party ignores the legal process. He clearly should have obtained legal assistance years before. To put this in perspective, there are a number of qualified black educators with or without doctoral degrees who are qualified. Many are women, and no matter the candidate they have to be persuaded to move to Des Moines. And you can bet they did it the right way.

Not the same thing at all.

A US citizen running a business, even if you don’t like how they do it, is still doing it legally. Citizens have the right to own companies, hire, fire, make money, whatever.

This guy wasn’t even supposed to be eligible for the jobs he had. Public school positions are paid with taxpayer money and are reserved for citizens or legal residents. He only got in by lying and ignoring the law.

And on top of that, he had gun charges and deportation orders. That’s not just “making a career in public service,” that’s slipping through the cracks and setting a terrible example for kids.

The problem isn’t just the job. It’s that the whole thing was illegal from the start.

+1 Because he's a liar and a con artist.

My theory is that he had some sort of temp status with a work authorization and then he lost it along the way but he was already employed so they didn’t re check

Obviously not of his choosing but seems like this could work out fine for him. He's been earning a good living, former Olympian, probably has the resources to do well in a country that's not spiraling the drain. Feel bad for the people of Des Moines, talk about sh*thole country.

I know Jackie and she is telling the truth. I haven’t talked to her in a decade, but I know her from Lafayette and she’s a very upstanding person who is civic minded to the core. Her husband John ran for governor. They run their family with a military precision, her two oldest are in academies. She isn’t sloppy.

Are you suggesting she's not sloppy but rather a "detail" person who approved his hiring anyway?

Let’s think this through…. Her husband was running for governor and her kids were in the public schools. Do you really think anyone is going to risk the fallout by knowingly hiring someone without a visa/citizenship? It makes no logical sense. She’s going to hire the best person for her kids and also because then she became a teacher in the system.

Also, from a legal standpoint, Trump may demand Obama show a birth certificate, but you can’t racially profile new hires at that level. If they ask such a crazy thing there will be a lawsuit, that they would handily lose.

Does that answer your question? I’m guessing no since you’re out for blood.

She was sloppy with this situation. Lots of red flags but they still hired him. And she has the audacity to tell the public to practice “radical empathy.” Another example of democrats favoring illegal aliens over citizens.
The board apparently knew he did not have his doctorate before they hired him but hired him anyway. Then, continued to refer to him as “Dr. Roberts.” They lied to the citizens of Des Moines.

Democrats REFUSE to mandate e-verify. Multiple bills have been proposed by republicans but NO democrats support mandating e-verify.

Democrats are dependent on cheap foreign labor. I really dont understand why the party of labor has abandoned labor.

There are enough people on both sides who do not want eVerify. This isn't a single-partisan issue. Look it up and stop just blaming democrats.

How can you believe this? Can you tell me what the red flags were in his file? Can you tell me who he was running against, i.e. who else was on the shortlist.

He sounds like a conman just like Trump. It happens, right?

He probably didn't even know he lost whatever status he had.

If an entity like a school board hires professional recruiters/head hunters, that is usually enough diligence in terms of creating the short list. The fact is, they did the diligence and somehow, after the fact, this other stuff comes out. I tend to believe the right wing media is overhyping the story and circumstances, for example the "gun charge" is a very minor thing that shouldn't even be considered a charge, and yet, those second amendment loving right wingers blow it out of proportion.
