I’m only concerned about protecting my family here; I lived near Elizabeth Smart as a child, and it haunts me.

Look up charities and how much is pocketed by the charity. Some like Goodwill keep around 90%+ of profits/donations/wealth.

Even the best of them is like 75% kept/pocketed, and less than 25% actually making it to the donation cause.

"Operational expenses" are a good cover for money laundering operations.

I’m well versed in charity navigator and guide Star.

25% of helping people vs 100% into liquor is still a better outcome

So instead of giving money, give food or a job or open your property up to let them use it or stay.

Obviously never ever give money to a panhandler who comes to your door. And don’t feel bad about it. And don’t feel like you have to make it up in other ways. That’s pretty bad stuff.

As for calling the police? I wouldn’t for the first instance but I’d keep an eye out and talk to neighbors. This is unusual activity.
