Having the neighbor free money ATM, always a good plan. |
People would only take it if they were really desperate. |
Word would get out at some point, and it will be a draw to more visitors. |
There are so many solicitors trying to seel stuff in our neighborhood that I don't answer the door unless I recognize the person, no matter how much they beat on the door. |
Live in downtown neighborhood in DC and haven't had this happen for a long time but 15 or so years ago when it did, I just politely said "no" and shut the door. You NEVER, EVER give money to people panhandling at the door---they will come back. |
This is not on the OP. This happens in Chevy Chase too. Pretty nice neighborhood, yes? Years ago, a women answered the front door, and the person's brazen accomplice(s) came in through the backdoor for a home invasion. |
Well, unfortunately this is also why the left leaning soft-hearted sometimes end up...no longer with us. Did you read the story of the young female entrepreneur who let someone (she did not know who wanted to be buzzed in) in their multi-unit residence in Balt. City? Terrible results. |
I’d rather be dead than someone think I’m maga trash. I’m sure that poor woman in Baltimore had a similar sentiment. |
Just don't answer your door! It is THAT simple! You all are so silly. I'll go ring you up and beg |
Look up charities and how much is pocketed by the charity. Some like Goodwill keep around 90%+ of profits/donations/wealth. ![]() Even the best of them is like 75% kept/pocketed, and less than 25% actually making it to the donation cause. "Operational expenses" are a good cover for money laundering operations. |
Oddly enough, you do sound like one. That extreme "I'd rather be...." Ironic. |
It's not. Cops would roll their eyes at you and try to placate you if you are rich, hoping for a "donation to the force." |

I’m well versed in charity navigator and guide Star. 25% of helping people vs 100% into liquor is still a better outcome |
Panhandling on private property is illegal. |
It’s legal in public places but pretty sure it’s illegal on residential property. I’d call the police to let them know. |
