SCOTUS ruling on Harvard discrimination case. Are you blind or just pretending to be. |
You're very confused. No one--not even Trump--is threatening Harvard's funding over racial discrimination. You need to learn to read. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/21/us/trump-administration-harvard-hearing.html Judge Allison D. Burroughs did not issue a ruling during a crucial hearing, which lasted more than two hours in her courtroom in Boston. But she did seem receptive to Harvard’s arguments, as both the school and the government sought to have the case decided in their favor without a trial. The judge unleashed a barrage of pointed questions at the lone Justice Department lawyer. She demanded to know, for instance, how the administration could reasonably tie withdrawal of medical research funding to concerns about the civil rights of Jewish people. And she appeared bothered by the administration’s hurried approach to attacking Harvard’s research funding, suggesting there were potentially “staggering” constitutional consequences if the government could punish a university without due process. Monday’s hearing came two months after Harvard sued the Trump administration. In the lawsuit, Harvard accused the government of threatening the school’s First Amendment rights when it conditioned federal funding on the university bowing to a set of Trump administration demands. Beyond free speech concerns, a central question in the case is whether the Trump administration ignored rules and procedures when it blocked the funds. The administration framed its tactics as a righteous response to antisemitism. But Harvard and its allies saw the roster of federal demands as intrusions untethered from trying to eradicate discrimination. |
Oh so that is why his dad went after Columbia |
One of the Trump requests is to stop DEI, which is racial discrimination. |
I'm not understanding why Harvard is feeling so pressured to settle when they're going to win in court. Unless they think that it will be a never-ending barrage of nusiance cases from the Trump administration, and eventually Trump will get lucky with a judge who ignores a law (or a SCOTUS who does so). |
Because they know they’re guilty. |
Add to the poem, the name of every other Ivy who will be subject to this next |
Only according to people who don't follow the law. |
Say whatever you want. It doesn’t make any difference. |
How is DEI racial discrimination? |
That's what authoritarians say--it only becomes true if people listen. |
Oh no, not DEI. That has truly ruined the lives of all of the Trump voters who so desperately wanted to go to Harvard! The horror. The horror. Meanwhile, he is threatening to take money away from the Harvard researchers who might come up with a cure for the diseases that might kill them (though I don't think anyone can cure the brainwashing that has unfortunately happened to most Trump supporters, and we all know you can't fix stupid). And by the way, I'm not a huge fan of DEI either. But I do not think this is the way to deal with it. And I have much bigger problems to worry about. |
OMG! Really! Because it gives preferential treatment based on race!!! |
| So DEI is such a problem but Trump putting grossly unqualified hacks in major government offices so they can attack his opponents is OK? Really? |
No. The core purpose of DEI is to level the playing field and ensure equal opportunities for all, regardless of background. It's about removing systemic barriers that have historically disadvantaged specific communities, not about giving them special privileges. |
