Does anyone super commute (work in NYC and live in DC)?

The two people I know who did this both made seven figures, I don’t think they would have done it for less.

There are several dozens of military folks working at the Pentagon whose families live in SE Virginia. The usual routine is to head north Sunday late AM, work a compressed schedule (still 40+ hours) and had south Friday afternoon. Some do this for their entire 3/4 year tour at the Pentagon. This is decades old, btw.

I also have heard of Army folks whose families live in Aberdeen MD and do roughly the same thing while working at the Pentagon.

In all of these cases, the spouse is a single parent with kids during the week. Military are not paid very well, so a nanny or an au pair is just not possible financially. They make it work.

Typo above: 3-4 year, not 0.75 year.

Can you get a camper van to sleep in?
No need for restaurant meals. You should be able to get coffee in the office.
Breakfast could be oatmeal and yogurt.
Pack some fruit for lunch and pre cooked meals from home
A membership at 24 h gym will allow you access to a shower

I was the OP of this thread and I actually got the job and have been doing the commute since December. I go up early on Wednesday mornings and leave after work on Thursdays. I stay in the same hotel every week and it's working well. Just in case anyone else is looking at this!

Op, how does this play out for taxes, do you have a tax return for each state?
