Which forum on here attracts the most troll or just plain crazy/angry posters in your opinion?

Sometimes I’m surprised by what gets deleted or locked, eg it seems fairly innocuous. I recall being really interested in this thread on traveling to India (I was thinking about a trip) and it was locked because someone was posting about safety for women travelers. Seemed like a fair discussion and I didn’t understand why it was locked.

But other times it seems like there are really disruptive and aggressive posters who don’t seem to be restricted at all. I often wonder if some of the nasty posts are from the same poster as there are a few who seem to have a telling posting ‘style’, but who knows?

I think there are a bunch of babies on here who report things that hurt their thin skin when they can just click away. I've seen it in interesting discussions like you mention, PP.

Yeah, that seems accurate to me. It frustrates me because interesting threads get locked or things are deleted. Meanwhile my sense is those ‘reporters’ are often the nasty in other posts but who knows? There was a poster in a thread I was on recently who was insulting people left and right, and a few posts clapped back at her/him. Those posts were deleted, not the op’s.

I remember that thread on India. I posted to it because I lived in India for a few years and subsequently travelled there for work 15+ times. Figured I'd share what I know. Then one day I went back to check it and it was locked. I dont' even remember anything particularly bad on the thread. There were some people posting bad (imo) advice and ignoring some of the concerns you might face as a solo female traveller, but nothing compared to some of the hate I've seen on other topics.

That thread was really good but there are people who can't tolerate hearing anything bad about other countries because I guess they take it personally? 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, that’s what bugs me sometimes. The thin skinned run and get good threads shut down, and then other crazies are left to post and post. I guess the mods don’t have time to sort through things, but it does seem odd at times. There’s a poster on Pet forum who I recognize who often starts out nice, but quickly spirals and starts ranting and insulting people and calling them horrible pet owners, selfish, entitled, dumb, etc for the most minor of things (recent post was a lady who asked- but didn’t- if a dog could jump into a public fountain). You’d think she shot someone by the way this poster was ranting.

Are you saying you report that poster and it doesn't get shut down?

The thread was shut down, yes. Not by me though. Not sure who it was, I didn’t follow that closely. But I did notice some responses missing when I went back to check, yet the posts insulting people were still there. So I wonder if she’s the one who got it closed by complaining. I sometimes think the nastiest ones may be the ones who then run to complain when people respond to them… mean but thin skinned!

I know what poster your talking about, totally obnoxious. I'm a very normal poster and noticed the spiraling and hostility and reported it for having gone off the rails resulting in the lock.

The anti Alexandria/ ACPS chick that haunts any real estate thread is certifiably mentally ill.

It’s the moderators world and we just all live in it. Anonymous forums that can be edited are, well, you get what you get. And the owner gets a lot of money.

True, I guess I just assumed we’d get a more professional moderation on here, especially if a lot of money is made (you think?).

Sometimes when I see people ask about a deleted thread or post or ban, the Dcum response seems so random and almost petty, like a middle schooler!

It's a private, personal website. You don't have to post on it, if you can find better. Or you can start your own, if it's that easy.

But there is no entitlement to professional moderation on a personal website. Welcome to the real world.

/not Jeff, just another poster

lol, case in point!!!

DP, not sure what point you think you are making, but complaining about moderation on a free message board is pretty entitled.

Dp, but this message board isn’t exactly free. We are being served ads and tracked.

DP. Okay, then don't pay that price, if it's too high.

Do you want people to google other forums for you? Wow.

Np. I think this is one of the type of posts people are talking about. Why so hostile and aggressive?

Questions seem to be recycled and posted over and over again to increase traffic.

Or maybe these are just things people want to chat about. I personally don’t dig through forums to ensure my post is original

Maybe you don’t have a very good memory. It was just a few weeks ago.

If someone posts about a marital problem, people immediately say the OP should leave their spouse and then attack and shame them for debating or wanting to stay. And if they have dc ‘what kind of model are you being for your child!!

Same with some of parenting forums. 75% of the posters will jump on the OP and tell them everything is their fault and they are terrible parents.

Politics. I haven’t noticed anything all that terrible there other than some MAGA snark. But I expect that these days.

This. This is why I have requested a separate forum for relationships (dating and marriage) from separating or divorced (special concerns works if it’s coparenting sometimes). If you are event thinking of separation and post about it in relationships the smug marrieds immediately troll you and you can’t get any actual advice.

I read relationships and no that doesn’t happen. I’m gathering that some of you have very thin skin.

In my humble opinion I would have to say the Nanny forum.

There is a mean person (or persons??) on that forum that just like to say mean things to others.

Yes, snark exists definitely (!) on all of this forum - but for some reason it seems tenfold on that forum. 😡

I see the same threads posted by trolls who want to stir people up. Recently seen it in religion (this one poster keeps asking if religion makes people good over and over again) and teens and tweens (a poster trying to get people riled up with a pretty obviously AI generated post about a kid's burner cell phone).

DP. I've seen the opposite in relationships. There's a man who repeatedly asks how any man stays married about pretty normal, small things. He's very smug about it.

Politics. It would be a great forum if there could be respectful discussion of differences. That is rare.

Thankfully I've never met these people on a team speaking like they do there. I can see why people complain about soccer parents though after reading that forum.

I know many of them. A couple years ago, when there was a very long McLean thread, it was very obvious who one of the posters was. Actually, I have had multiple soccer threads in which I could identify posters. Awful forum. At one point it was absolutely the most toxic. I don't read it anymore.

I like the politics forum overall but the bots and obvious trolls are incredibly annoying.

The relationship forum is unreadable.

I actually don't mind the college forum. You have to read critically of course and dismiss ridiculous opinions but I have learned a lot there.

That would require participants all working off of the same set of facts, preferably not alternative.
