All of the matriculations aren’t listed so you can’t make any conclusions from that.

DP

I bet standardized test scores dropped.

You don't need all of them. You just need a reasonable representative sample size.

We don’t know that the list from this year (or prior years) was reasonably representative. The list is incomplete.

There is also a lot of variation from year to year and many recent changes on the college admissions front. e.g., Class of 2023 had more options for test optional than the Class of 2024.

It’d be more meaningful to look at the full data set over a period of time.

The rest of the list from this year is posted above and includes over half of the class. So yes, you can compare. The admissions to selective schools was not as strong this year. That said, the trend of UVA not accepting as many TJ students has been going on for more than a few years.

The TJ Today list is matriculations, not acceptances. Fewer have been matriculating at UVA, but we don't know all the details. A higher percentage appear to go OOS vs 10 years ago.

That matches national trends … easier to get in to an OOS flagship or public vs. your own state’s flagship in many cases. Especially for competitive majors like engineering.

Well, we don't know what the financial picture looks like as well once merit or financial aid is factored. What happened with TJ was as it became nationally recognized, graduates were actively recruited by colleges and the amount of scholarship money went way up. That may all reverse now with the new admissions criteria.

The one thing that is clear is that the number of students staying in-state had generally been going down for quite a while. All from TJ Senior editions.

Having the full list of acceptances over a period of time would be way more meaningful than comparing partial lists of matriculations between two years.

Even TJ does not know who was accepted where if student does not share. TJ only knows where the student will matriculate to (because it needs to send final transcript).

The best list would be the internal student-run survey because that shows acceptances if shared by students. You need to be a current TJ student to access.

How does TJ 2025 college admission compare with other high schools, like Langley, McLean and Woodson? It was said both Langley and Woodson have graduates going to MIT. What about other top universities?
