That seems like a relatively small percentage of TJ kids posting on Instagram compared to some of the other local high schools, some of which also have very "solid outcomes."

In any event, congrats to all the graduates.

Yes it is very good result.
Also heard around 40 kids go to Purdue, (very solid engineering school), this “lottery” admission resulting in more kids interested in Stem!

Do they get scholarships? Not that much different otherwise from all the kids at other schools going to Virginia Tech.

Why are so few kids going to UVA and to Virginia schools in general? A generation ago something like one-quarter of the TJ class (100 or so students every year) went to UVa and another 40 or 50 went to Virginia Tech. Are Virginia schools less appealing for some reason now? Or does UVA no longer accept most TJ students who apply?

Those are great schools for the majors they want to pursue.

For awhile now (not just this year) UVA has pulled back on how many they seem to be accepting. Note though that the page is only 140 kids so nowhere near everyone.

I think UVA and VT have gotten more selective with TJ so a lot of the kids that can get into these schools can get into a more highly ranked school or get merit aid somewhere else.

The TJ counselors said that Northern VA as a whole is seeing declining number of admissions to UVA (not sure about VTech) as UVA is trying to represent more of the state. In the past years, a disproportionate number of NOVA students got into UVA.

So there's a trend that's happening across all the NOVA high schools, that is also reflected in the lower numbers of UVA bound TJ students.

I don't think VT has ever had high numbers from TJ.

I am a TJ class of 2025 parent, and I just do not understand why people post these comments about these kids. Today was TJ graduation and even the class representative's speeches reflected how they feel that they had to prove themselves to everyone because they were the first class with the new admission process. How do you know this year's graduates did not do as well as last year and who is everyone? Do you have a Class of 2025 graduate this year? Many more kids got into ivies and other top 20 colleges and did not post on the class Instagram, including my own kid.
