Give me your best road trip advice!

I download a bunch of podcasts on advance. Those make the trip much more enjoyable for me than music. My son puts his earphones in for most of the trip. Everyone’s happy.

^^^This!

Plan for 2 stops on the way. And as the driver, listen to radio/podcasts/books you like. My teen enjoys listening to my true crime podcasts during road trips as much as I do, we sometimes debate who’s guilty or not.

I personally stop every two hours or so. I need to pee, stretch my legs, etc. Driving with people like you is exhausting.

You're stopping 4 times on an 8 hour trip? That's insane.

I do that. Just as you need to walk around a plane for the sake of your circulation, you also need to get out of the car regularly and walk around a bit.

Exactly. I’m not sure why that’s such a hard concept to understand. I’m guessing most of the posters saying that it’s crazy are men eager to race to the destination so they can do some more sitting there.

I’m female actually, and we don’t sit around once we get to our destinations. We run around unpacking, possibly food shopping, exploring what’s new in the area, meeting up with friends for dinner, etc. Sorry your bladder hates you , but most people can go four hours comfortably without peeing.

The difference between you and me is that I don’t care how often you have to pee. 4 hours? Good for you! Keep on driving. However, your bladder is not better and it doesn’t get to dictate how often I pee. I don’t need to get a UTI just so you can unpack 10 min earlier.

You should see a doctor if you can’t go more than two hours without getting a UTI. I am perfectly hydrated and haven’t had a UTI since I was four years old. I honestly think something is wrong with your body.

You're so ignorant. I've been to the doctor plenty and there is nothing wrong with me or peeing every two hours. It is wrong to assume that just because you can hold it (which is really unhealthy) that I also should follow your ignorant advice.

You both sound pissy.

Play "I Kill Your Cows"! Only works in rural areas, so not always best on the interstate, but in the right area it can get heated.

Road tripping with people like you is why everyone hates roadtripping.

Why not pull over if someone needs to use the bathroom? Why are you so rigid? My only rule, after four kids and thousands of miles of roadtripping is that when we stop, everyone goes.

We will be making an (only) 8 hour drive (I know…) and as someone who has gotten used to air travel, it feels daunting.

We (including our 14yo) will be leaving around 6am and hope to arrive by 4, including quick stops for food and facilities. Is it going to be as horrible as I imagine? Any general road trip advice?

Why are you driving 8 hours? Is there no train or air service? Sounds miserable.

We just took what should have been a 4-5 hr drive but it became 6.5. Kids did great! I agree we ran out of water (bought more). Snacks are good. My kids are 8 and 12 but even the 12 year old has fun writing out the names of towns we’ll go through on painter’s tape, putting it up in the car, and checking the towns off as we go.

It’s going to be fun. Figure out a podcast or two you all will agree upon for a part of the trip. You and your kid can put a great road trip playlist together Find fun things along the way: https://roadtrippers.com/

Otherwise, 8 hours is nothing.

Also, your kid may sleep through part of it and then you can listen to the podcasts of your own choosing.

If you’re going south on 95 don’t stop at South of the Border but do count the billboards!

Drove from Alexandria to Miami, stopped for the night in Jacksonville. Was too much for us to do in 1 day.

I would find you exhausting, I cannot stand rising with someone who needs constant breaks, it makes the trip so much longer, especially if one of the breaks is already lunch.
