I download a bunch of podcasts on advance. Those make the trip much more enjoyable for me than music. My son puts his earphones in for most of the trip. Everyone’s happy.

I mean good for you, but I have gotten a UTI and there is simply not any reason in my mind to be miserable for the rest of the trip because someone wants to get there just a little but earlier.

I do 8 - 10 or longer hour drives about a dozen times a year. It really isn't a big. You sit in a car and drive. You stop when you need to/want to. It isn't rocket science. I don't understand why everyone wants to make a big deal of it.

You need to see a Dr Mcgermy.

Imagine letting people pee when they need to?? Imagine not being offended and triggered when someone needs to pee!!!!

I personally stop every two hours or so. I need to pee, stretch my legs, etc. Driving with people like you is exhausting.

You're stopping 4 times on an 8 hour trip? That's insane.

I do that. Just as you need to walk around a plane for the sake of your circulation, you also need to get out of the car regularly and walk around a bit.

Exactly. I’m not sure why that’s such a hard concept to understand. I’m guessing most of the posters saying that it’s crazy are men eager to race to the destination so they can do some more sitting there.

Why are you driving 8 hours to just sit around? Some of us make plans at our destination.

You sound insufferable. Depends may be in your future.

Insufferable is the person who can't be bothered to let their loved one pee when they need to. Insufferable is the person who has no planning skills and plans something 600 miles away on a schedule.

I don’t understand people who go into road trips with a preplanned number of stops. If someone needs to use the bathroom, we stop. If it’s close to a natural break point for eating a meal, we consolidate those stops. Each “bio break” typically add 10-15 minutes to our ETA. So we might stop twice for a 7 hour trip and get to our destination about 15 minutes after the traveler who only allows for one stop.

In my experience, the person who wants NO stops is married to a person who wants LOTS of stops, and they’ve both developed a lot of opinions about it.

Nah, DH and I figured this out the first month of dating. Neither one of us could be with someone so anxious about travel that they wouldn't let their loved ones pee.

We do a couple of 6-8 hour road trips per year and it's really not a big deal. We don't pre-plan stops or number of stops, but there will always be one longer stop for gas and a sit-down lunch, and then we just stop as needed if somebody needs the bathroom (and everybody goes whether they feel like they need to or not).

I’d never heard of this but just downloaded it. Thank you for the recommendation!

Ehh, we fly for 600 miles. Road trips are for the poors.

I have my watch alarm set to go off because of a blood clotting issue. My doctor tells me how often I need to stop and walk around. Sometimes my walk is just around a carpark.

Do you understand that?

OK, you have an extreme situation, a valid medical reason for needing to stop. The average healthy adult does not need to stop every 2 hours on an 8 hour drive.

Yes I am poor because I make an 8.5 hour road trip to our $7.5 million beach house. It's easier than flying with the stuff I take, and grocery stores I prefer are not close by and travel with dogs
