Driving with people like you is exhausting because you make the trip SO much longer than it needs to be. Every two hours is ridiculous. Suck it up and stay on the road. |
Geez how long did that take? We stay in Savanna overnight for FL trips. |
8 hours with a teenager should be no big deal. Audio books and music are good - I like short memoirs for this or something funny. Some things I always pack are drinks and snacks, wet wipes, some grocery bags for trash and a towel or old baby blanket. Sunglases and ear plugs or headphones if someone is trying to sleep. Does anyone get carsick? take some dramamine. |
Nope, I pee when I have to pee. I'm not getting a UTI because you are in a rush to get there. Suck it up and wait for 5 min. |
NP, from where I am (northern Tampa Bay) to Ashland VA is about 12 hours-depending on traffic and stops. I have done this a few times and will again next month, because it leaves me with a shorter drive the next day to the NE. I d/l a bunch of podcasts that might interest us all and older dd makes playlists. Plus younger dd has her ipad. And paper and markers and stuff like that. We stop every 3-4 hours (3 hrs in is Bucc-ees). It's a long day but it's part of our adventures. |
Don’t over think it. Treat it like an 8 hour flight. We preload tablets with shows and movies. Only stop when you need to. We usually aim for a Sheetz because the bathrooms are usually clean enough and they have limitless hot and cold snack options. Unless you’re passing a Buc-ee’s. Always stop for Buc-ee’s. |
Stopping with teens and adults is quick and easy. I stop whenever I want.
With little kids, I agree, you need to stop as infrequently as possible. |
NP here Same. Plus, my foot starts to really hurt from the angle of the gas pedal if I go too long without taking a walk break. I had a previous fracture on that foot, so not sure if that's the only reason why or if it's something that is common. |
We only drive for 4-6 hours a day. Stop at a nice hotel for the night, eat at places that Yelp raves about, weave in some touristy thing or national park to see. But, then, we also do a lot of roadtrips across US for at least a couple weeks with the family. |
If driving through very deserted areas - (death valley for eg) - rent out satellite phones for the journey.
Water and other things to do basic repair also recommended. |
You're stopping 4 times on an 8 hour trip? That's insane. |
JFC. You're not going to get a UTI from holding pee for an hour? You're insufferable. I doubt you travel at all. |
JFC you're probably a road rager who tailgates everyone on the road too. You know nothing about women's health and I'm not about to waste my time educating you. I pee when I need to pee and I'm not holding it because "you said so" moron. I travel just fine BTW. I didn't marry a man-child so there is that. |
You do you. No one is stopping you from driving straight through. I need to stop about every two hours so that's what I do. |
No. Relax. Death Valley sees plenty of traffic. There are places in North America where satellite phones are indeed necessary. I highly doubt that OP, who is driving 8 hours from DC for the first time in two decades, is going there. |
