School board increases salaries for teachers with LARGER class sizes?

So simple a 5 year old could come up with the right answer, yet it is beyond Reid and the school board.

And yet it doesn’t make sense at all! We still need IT, HR, facilities management, etc., etc.

This is bad.

Every time I go over there there is some sort of party/conference happening. It's such a waste of money.

It's not astronomical. FCPS teachers have had their steps frozen for so many years in the last 13 years that we are now the bottom of the barrel for mid-career teachers, and we are losing good teachers in droves to adjoining counties. Retaining and attracting good teachers IS good for students. adjacent counties have far better heath benefits too.

The board needs to cut way more from itself ($120K staffers for each Board member!?!?!!!!!!!), from central office, and from outrageously high vendor contracts. Totally agree that 5% raises for non-instructional staff adds insult to injury when class sizes are going up.

Cut outsourcing contracts, but jet for central office supplies and travel, budget for materials, and all the new Board director hires. Not class sizes and not teacher pay.

Seems unlikely unless you were going there to attend a party.

The teachers I worked with called those at Headquarters "people who do lunch." We were talking about the "professionals" who wore expensive suits. The ones who visit the schools and talk about what a great job you are doing while demanding more paperwork from you. After all, they do have to justify their jobs. So, they give a little speech now and then.

And the schools in FCPS get worse because we keep cutting funding and staff from the schools who actually need the funding and staff. This is not rocket science. The teachers I know are done doing more for less and larger class sizes without IA's and monitors doesn't make anyone feel better in the county. What a mess FCPS always is.
