Why Is Vanderbilt So Hot Right Now With DMV Families?

No it isn’t. It’s known for grade inflation, and this was the experience of family members who have attended in recent years.

As long as it takes half the class test optional, Vandy is going to be the weak link in the T20, popular with kids who don’t have a chance at the test required schools.

PP you’re responding to. You post on every thread about your cousins who attended Vanderbilt years ago. My source, my junior who attends now, is a better source. There is grade DEflation within econ, engineering, and the pre-med tracks. It’s actually a problem.

I strongly suspect your years-back cousins attended Peabody school within Vanderbilt, which is for education majors and marketing and sales types. Grades are easy in Peabody/HoD

Yes I think that happens to any t20 school, especially now. These schools are all very different from what they were 30 years ago.

Amazing school to go to if you’re premed, pre health, or into hard stem. Their medical center is outstanding!

It’s the new Duke.
Beware of some of the social vibe if a girl though.

As a Vandy alum, I implore you to never equate us with that school again. We're the anti-Duke.

How do? I found them to be similar in many ways, which is a GOOD thing!

Duke was more rabid about basketball, and Vandy has a better location with Nashville. But both were very centered on the student experience, and were teeming with very smart, well-rounded, social kids. Perfect balance between academic rigor and a fun social scene.

Huh, this was within the past 5 years, and neither was in Peabody. Nor are they my cousins. Perhaps you are confusing me with another poster.

When was that? 1980?

Acceptance rate was 65% in 1993.

Ok not 1980 but still…really? 1993? 32 years ago?? By 2000, Vanderbilt’s acceptance rate was 32% and has been steadily dropping since. Yeah, times do change.

Argumentative much?

Vanderbilt is fine but I don’t know any kid who chooses it over the ivies. My niece is going to start there this fall. We are thrilled for her. She is a strong student but was rejected by the 4 ivies she applied to.

That was her area of interest, went into consulting after graduation. Trying to protect anonymity. Sorry your kids struggled there despite the grade inflation.

Does anyone choose it over other T20?

A good percentage of students at Vanderbilt got in ED, so it's the only school they chose.

Doubt it . It sounds like fun and frivolous place…

+1 rising junior landed a killer internship - sooo hard to get for the summer after sophomore year. DC landed it by networking with alumns from greek house and business frat. And already has a better internship for junior year, which should translate to a job offer. My kid absolutely luvs it there, and had several ivy acceptances

younger sibling a junior in hs in DCUM region says it’s top 5 in terms of dream schools for the elite and cool kids
