Why Is Vanderbilt So Hot Right Now With DMV Families?

Not at our boys’ HS. Lots of Duke and Penn, more NE schools- Ivies, BC, GU.

Very few if any apply to Vanderbilt. And none go

We aren’t seeing it. It became very trendy when Gwenyth’s daughter went. We aren’t seeing at our HS either.

Are you watching the news this week? That drama is hardly trump-related.

Sorry your kid didn't get in.

Sorry you have no original thoughts.

There will always be a people in the NE and Mid-Atlantic who can’t fathom that a quality education exists outside of their region, but UVA, W&M, Duke, Vanderbilt, UNC, and Davidson are all fine Southern schools. If people actually visited these schools and familiarized themselves with their decades of high achievement, they might realize that intellectual pursuits are not restricted to their narrow set of “elite” schools. Further, if NYC/Boston did not have their historical good fortune of being the country’s base for trade/commerce/banking and those jobs were located elsewhere, it’s unclear that outcome-obsessed parents would even care about the Ivy League.

I think Vanderbilt has been popular here for a while. I'd say 10 years.

Source?

Official site only says 13% ED acceptance rate.

I haven't heard a single person mention Vanderbilt. No idea why your social circle seems keen on it.

No it isn’t. It’s known for grade inflation, and this was the experience of family members who have attended in recent years.

As long as it takes half the class test optional, Vandy is going to be the weak link in the T20, popular with kids who don’t have a chance at the test required schools.

Hedge funds are moving to Florida. Exchanges are moving to Texas. Charlotte already has significant IB and banking exposure. Opportunities are proliferating.

It is? News to me.

+2. I don’t anyone talking about Vanderbilt. Haven’t seen it come up on an acceptance list in years, actually.

Only people I know trying to go there are Trump supporting families that deem the top colleges and Ivies as too liberal. Not sure I want to attend college with people that are anti anything above the Mason Dixon Line.

You either live in a narrow universe or the wrong one. Vanderbilt gets a lot of talk these days. It’s ok to admit it.

Jewish families, in particular, are outright banning their kids from even applying to schools like Columbia, Penn, and Harvard. Now, they're looking heavily at Vanderbilt, given their chancellor's committment to political diversity and punishing anti-Israel campus agitators.

I don’t think Jewish families act like a monolith.

Based off your post, I’m happy to not live in your universe. Thanks.
