| MIT isn’t happening unless URM first gen or huge spike - like won a national science award. I would retake BC online if that would be considered for the transcript. Or get a 5 on the AP exam and maybe try for Cornell or Dartmouth. What is his EC profile? I would really reframe college expectations. |
The weighted gpa from TJ is too low relative to classmates for any ivy |
100%. “Bloom where u are planted”—they want the best of the high school you are in. Ivy/T15 may take from deeper in the class at TJ(top20% usually, as long as rigor high), versus random public it is top2% and good private it is usually top10-15%. They do not care that TJ top 50% have SATs comparable to the top 2% of the public. They want the best of the best. UVA has said the same thing though they deny specific quotas, the bar is different at different high schools |
NO! These public health and global health majors were INCREDIBLY popular this year. I know a lot of very top kids shut out from top20 schools. You have to get far more obscure than this. |
What is an obscure biology major? |
This is nonsense. I know the YCBK podcast you are referring to and you are inaccurate in your description. They were harder in the kids but the application was very nondescript overall. There would be a huge pile of profiles which looked just like her and she a Had nothing to draw focus to her application relative to the others. TJ had nothing to do with it except that she would first be evaluated relative to her HS peers and once again was vanilla. |
It wasn't YCBK. It was posted above. Read before you respond with your nonsense. |

My kid who went to TJ and was accepted to MIT (chose different school) for CS/engineering got an A- in Calc BC junior year. Got a 5 on the AP exam like pretty much all TJ kids because that class is so hard it prepares you well even if don’t get an A.
|
I doubt that since my kid was an MIT athlete and she had full coach support which meant that her typical chances were 50-65% (per the coach) based on her academic profile. She was admitted. |
Ok, I got the podcaster wrong……everything else is spot on so sit down, shut up, and let the adults talk. |
I've seen a lot of success with these majors at Cornell and Brown this year. |
| If your child can't get an A in Calc AB I'd strongly consider AGAINST a school like MIT/Caltech due to the rigor it expects in math. |

What post are you answering? |
If you can't read and repeat a single sentence correctly then I'd strongly consider against advising college admissions. |
