If you or I did such a thing for a person subject to an order from the judge, this same judge would lock us up for it.

So, this illegal alien was being tried for domestic assault. The two victims who he beat up - violently - were in the court room ready to testify. When the judge found out that ICE was present she became furious, took the illegal alien out and escorted him out through the private jury door. ICE chased him down and arrested him.

This is a man who had been previously deported, BTW. And, entered illegally again.

Lawyers in this area can also chime in, but I know where I'm at in Loudoun, we are already seeing the effects of these arrests at courthouses.

Small misdemeanor charges that defendants always showed up for in-person are now being skipped.

These include minor charges like driving without a license, unregistered vehicle, driving without insurance, etc. where typically the defendant could show up to court, provide proof to the judge that they'd obtained a license/insurance/registered their vehicle and have the charge dismissed. They'd only need to pay a small court fee. But now judges are giving out max fines and for class 2, 3, and 4 misdemeanors if the person isn't present. They are issuing bench warrants for class 1 misdemeanors when they don't show.

If I was at court with 10 defendants with a mix of class 2-4 misdemeanor charges over a few days, I may have had 1 no show. Now? It is more like 50-75% are no shows. And I haven't had a class 1 misdemeanor defendant no-show in years but have unfortunately had 2 no-show this week.

It's not just misdemeanor stuff that people will no-show. If someone is an important witness for a civil or criminal matter, and they no-show because they are afraid of ICE, that impacts other people. Possibly even you. Oops.
