I think this hate is mostly from Emory/WUSTL parents who are nervous that there is not much that distinguishes #20 on USNWR and #40.

BC will never be ranked higher than WUSTL and Emory. Their alums and parents are not at all worried, and the gap between 20 and 40 in USNWR is massive. People with great academic credentials do not pay BC much mind.

Have you ever spoken to one of these “the gap between 20 and 40 is massive” people in real life? They are either your kind of people or they are people you leave parties to avoid. Whenever I read a post like this, I conjure up a mental image and just roll my eyes.

This particular poster has a huge … crush … on WUSTL and Vandy and he goes to insane lengths to create/make up huge gaps and fake comparisons/differences between his favorite schools and a particular “other” school. So, yes, indeed.

I have a huge crush on T25 schools when they are dragged in the mud by BC, which does not belong in the same paragraph as them. BC is not elite. It is for okay but unexceptional students from New England.

Perfect example of the "make up sh$t" option used by the BC hate pp (who is singularly responsible for nearly every negative response on this thread). Literally inventing bs that he needs to "respond" to.

There are multiple posters here saying BC is in the same tier as several T25 schools.

It's only you but thanks for the vote of confidence! Do you ever get bored responding to yourself?

Plenty of posters, media outlets, and normal people walking the streets know BC is not as good as Duke.

You insist that pps say it's T25 (which they don't, they've said BC is ranked #37) and as proof, you assert that people know that Duke ranks higher? Don't you tire yourself out making circular and illogical "arguments" with yourself?

BC was not a commuter school in the 80s - not even close. BU either. NEU - yes

USC and NYU are significantly better than those other schools and require a better applicant profile.

Nope. Applicant profile are at the same level in general especially NYU except for Stern.

Dream on. People go to jail to get their children into USC. People on DCUM run for the hills before paying 90k a year for mediocrity.

Data disagree with your imagination.

My guy, google "Varsity Blues Scandal."

Google the data.

The data says U Illinois is ranked higher.

Are you Dumb or what??

Data is not subjective random rankings.

The inputs are based on objective metrics. You are free to design a ranking that would make BC #1 in the country, but your inputs will likely be far removed from academics.

Posters have repeatedly claimed BC is in the same tier at T25, and often T15 schools. They then attack USNews for not validating their delusions.

The BC network within Boston is fine but you are competing with Tufts, BU, and NEU (to say nothing of Harvard and MIT and NESCACs or Ivy graduates looking to return home), none of which is a clearly better than the others. Because so much of the higher-paying Boston job market is biotech, it is less than ideal to got to BC thinking you will stay in Boston. Maybe you work back or middle office at State Street.

Network is overrated anyways.

Not when you go to a T25 school.

This is what you get with the fancy network.

- Harvard English = $64,155
- Boston College Finance = $135,373
- Northeastern CS = $149,127

Among motivated Catholic families, BC was not the school of choice. Georgetown, Holy Cross, and Notre Dame have the cache, BC and Nova are newcomers. No nursing or education schools at ND and HC and their endowment per student higher than Boston.

Duke, Dartmouth, USC, Cornell, WUSTL, Emory, Georgetown, and others have all been equated with BC.

Correct. This is why the alumni network is not that strong. BC will never be able to compete with ND and Gtown amongst top students seeking a Catholic college.

I went to BC and never heard any hate until this thread. There's good-natured ribbing between Jesuit schools, but we don't really hate each other.

Self-reported stats are beautiful and not fraught with significant problems. Let me know the next time you fill out an alumni survey of your income and net worth 30 years out of school. If you think the BC Finance major is doing better in life than Harvard English you are a fanatic.
