We love Woodmans, we always stop at one in Eau Claire on our way to the cabin in northern Wisconsin. |
| Any that is stocked up after the storm rush |
+1 The customer service is nice, too. They are helpful with special orders. They assist with loading, if you ask. They are super-stocked because it is a priority store with the warehouses. They are constantly re-organizing everything. The managers and workers are friendly and helpful. E.g. I was muscling a big case of water off of the end cap and a manager rushed and shouted out, ‘let me help you with that!’ Really excellent customer service. I also appreciate their natural food aisle and specialty food. |
| I heard the Giant near me was open yesterday during the snow/sleet storm. Greedy. |

One of the things I love about living in DC is that I don't need to pick a favorite grocery store.
I was making short rib ragu the other day so I went to Canale's in Eastern Market because they always have boneless short ribs, then I went to Trader Joe's for a $4 bottle of wine to cook with, then I went to Safeway for the rest of the ingredients, all on my walk home from work. |
| I like different stores for different things. I have a pretty regular rotation going between Giant, Harris Teeter, Wegmans, H Mart, Moms, and Costco. Not a huge fan of Whole Foods or TJs. My new discovery is Sprouts - they don't carry everything I need to keep my teenager happy, but what they do carry is excellent. I only shop once a week, but rotate between these stores, and pick one each week based on what I need to get that week. If I had to choose one for all of my regular shopping, it would probably be Harris Teeter as they carry most of the things on my typical list - not everything, but more than any other single store, |

I don't particularly like any here.
I try not to go to Giant or Harris Teeter: layout and brands and frankly aromas bug me. HT stores always have a slight odor. I use Safeways and WF and Balduccis for specific items. The only chain I liked was Bread&Circus and yes that was long ago. I do like Super Safeways in the West. Arizona. |
| The produce at most of the local chains is terrible. MOM's probably is the best for produce locally, but compared to what you find at a generic street market in just about any city or town outside the us, still abysmal. Because of this, I just go to whatever store happens to be most convenient on any given day. I typically cycle between Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, Costco, Trader Joes. |
Or sprouts. CA |
Agree with this. MOM's is great, go when I can. I also get eggs at Fresh Market, because they are the only grocery I've found that carry OrgaNick eggs. I was disappointed to learn recently that there are issues with Vital and a number of other brands I used to think were the best. https://www.cornucopia.org/scorecard/eggs/ |
I feel the same about Wegman's brands. I like their own brand but their choices on other brands to stock (competition?) is so limiting on some items that it pushes me away anyway... |
I can't believe no one said H-Mart. Better, cheaper produce and fruit, better-quality meat, lots of variety. I go to multiple stores, but if I had to choose just one, I could live on what you can purchase at H-Mart, and just overpay for milk.

Bread&Circus in Boston area? That was just like pre-Amazon Whole Foods. |
| It's all delivery all the time. Whole Foods mostly. Grocery stores are too peopley. I do go to TJs about once a month for fun stuff but it's a quick trip before all the clueless inconsiderate blockheads start to annoy me |
Yep. Ick. |
