A great idea and I just called my House member asking him to wear a mask and also called Jeffries office asking him to ask all Democrats to wear a mask tonight protesting trump screaming about "illegal" protests

You realize that many states have laws banning wearing masks while committing a crime? This was in response to the KKK. Do you support the KKK wearing masks now?

Is peaceful protesting a crime?

Breaking into buildings and holding workers hostage as happened just last week is a crime.

What are you talking about?

I assumed this was a reference to January 6 until I read "last week"

This is what prompted the statement from Trump. He through Dept of Ed and HHS is threatening to stop federal research funding for Columbia. https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2025/03/03/hhs-ed-gsa-announce-additional-measures-end-anti-semitic-harassment-college-campuses.html

I am leftist and I believe that the left protests lost credibility when they covered their faces. Why did the students do that??? They convictions are so shallow.

That is jacked. Let them see our faces. It’s what makes us human.

Sorry Jewish person, I know you are hugging Trump right now because you think he is your path forward.

We've got bigger fish to fry.

I am Jewish too. I support Jewish students being able to learn free from antisemitism which is rampant now on college campuses, harassment and intimidation in the US. I am not hugging Trump but do support his standing up for Jewish students. I recognize the complete hypocrisy of him condemning protestors after the assault on Democracy of Jan 6. Let’s take support where we get it. It doesn’t mean we have to like or support him in general.

Thank you PP for posting this. I am a Columbia alumna and was on campus for Alumni weekend last year. The pro-Palestinian protests I saw on campus throughout the weekend were extremely peaceful. There was angry shouting outside the gates from a group of counter pro-bombing of Gaza protesters (I am trying to avoid equating pro-war/death with Israelis in general). The counter protesters were clearly not students bc they were not allowed on campus and they were quite aggressive trying to block alumni from entering campus.

They now mask because the Harvard students were doxxed (identies disclosed) and had employment offers pulled.

Of course it’s about Gaza, and probably any anti Trump protests that will probably intensify as the economy collapses. Universities are probably about to get seriously wrecked over the next couple of years.

I'm trying to send my HS senior off to college this fall and I can't tell if these statements are chicken little or a real concern.

All of which is up for the local police, campus police, and administrators to deal with. Not for Trump to erode 1A with threats.

Stop treating the Tribe and the Tribe students as some special class. You aren't. They aren't. You and they have no right to be free from being the target of protests. No right whatsoever.

If we don't turn around the admin soon, here is what you will see:
-Universities collapsing as fin aid gets pulled
-Universities collapsing as funding gets pulled
-Universities collapsing if the economy tanks (normally, this is good for two year colleges, but see above)
-Universities collapsing because faculty and staff bail out of fear and funding cuts.
-Vital research cut off at the knees

But how do we navigate all this? Anti-war protests are like, part of the college experience, and have been since the 1960s. How do we protect Jewish students without banning free speech and without creating a two-tiered system where only some wars can be protested?

True old school liberals support the collapse of the universities. They have become cross-generational income inequality machines in which young students are enslaved by debt to fund big salaries for baby boomer administrators. The DEI boom has been amazing for the older generations, as hundreds of highly paid DEI administrative positions have been created at EACH big University in the country. We're literally eating our young people. Same with housing policy. Baby boomers want rising home prices, and if their kids can't get houses or start families, too bad.

Most of these elite schools have huge endowments. They aren't going to collapse. Some could run on the interest from their endowments indefinitely.
