But long term, how does that pan out? The majority of people will be unemployed and have nothing?

So you didn't take ECON 101?

Plan accordingly.

WTF?! I say this as someone who thinks we could pare down the gov. a little bit, I admit there is a lot of fraud waste and abuse but 75% is insane and will collapse the county. This would be catastrophic.

I wish I could get citizenship in another county right now.

Take a deep breath. Despite his talk, he is going to have to follow the process. He can't just fire people without having cause. RIF takes time and requires following the regs.

That's why he's working to hard to make working conditions as miserable as possible -- he wants people to leave of their own accord.

They’ve been operating with impunity so far and not following any “process”. Why do you think that’s going to change?

Almost all of their stuff has been successful challenged in court

Per WaPo, they’ve removed people at Ed and DOE simply for attending a required diversity training. Or for administering tribal grant programs. I certainly hope someone is challenging those actions.

Haven’t literally nearly all employees everywhere had to attend diversity training…this stuff goes back 20 years now.

It goes back nearly 40 years.

Absolutely nothing is safe.

OIG staff in agencies may be ok but will probably be required to do heinous things.

They fired 18 inspectors general. Why would you think their underlings would be safe?

GAO is safe.

I’m at GAO and posted a few pages back. We are relatively safe (and worried about our federal colleagues) for now. But I know I’m not alone in worrying about whether the administration will follow the established process (and what can be done if they don’t) to appoint our next comptroller general. The current CG’s 15-year term expires in December.

Tsa agents. Trump won't want long lines at airports. At least in the short term...baggage screening is a pretty plausible AI use case and there might be other ways to reduce the need for staff.

Maybe BOP prison guards. Trump seems to like the death penalty.

By now, we all know agencies that are in serious jeopardy (USAID, OPM, GSA, Ed, etc.) but I’m curious what these jobs are that people view as protected? With the exception of immigration-focused or non-executive branch agencies, I’m not seeing many. Even places not typically targeted by republicans (DOD, CIA, NOAA, etc.) seem to be drawing DOGE attention.

So you want draw Doge attention to other agencies? That's just great OP.

I also think that Elon has plenty of ideas about how many feds he’s going to be able to fire. I don’t believe him that he will actually be able to do so.

Agree with this. An the RIF process is going to take time.

PP you’re quoting - exactly.

And also: Elmo’s hyperbole is done expressly to scare people. That’s the point. The best thing people can do is *not* believe someone who has zero experience in government. I completely understand that it’s scary, but we can’t come undone. Don’t believe him.

You really think Elon uses the DCUM jobs forum to plot his next move?

Wait until you prosecute the “wrong” case.

Exactly, they do not want any oversight!

DOD at Walter Reid. Feel safer than my counterparts at NIH (where I started my career) but not “safe”.
