Could my kid take prealgebra in sixth if she tests into it? Are there other extension opportunities? How hard is it to go to HB for middle but then WL IB?

Yes, can take pre-algebra in 6th. There are intensified classes in 6th. Can't answer the transition to WL question but my kid went to private, no homework middle school. very worried about WL transition. They are doing great! The first month was a home work culture shock though. BUt they are very self-motivated.

I have also been told no intensified classes at HB. Is that wrong?

There are no intensified classes in middle school at H-B, but some of the classes are hard. My kid is doing a LOT of writing in sixth grade. Plus, they move quickly because there are 8 classes instead of 7. It's great they get more electives, but the faster pace makes it kind of intensified by default.

my 6th grader's course selectin sheeot had intensified for many classes

For HB? No it does not. There are no intensified classes in HB MS other than for math. But my gifted kid was not bored. The classes do move more quickly and most of the teachers are good.

I know of a family with 3 kids there too - maybe the same one? They come from a school in South Arlington where not too many kids apply, so the odds are pretty good. And they also have a kid who is not at HB who didn't win the lottery.

Different family. Waitlists in the 20s all three times. It’s wild.

They probably go to one of the schools where the HB waitlist never ever gets anywhere close to 20. The odds are very very different from different elementary schools.

I know of two families with two siblings in north Arlington and that is just in one grade cohort

10th from your school almost zero chance.

Yes we were I want to say 2 or 3 and never moved

One of mine made it in at 6th and one made it in at 9th, so its also possible they didn't all make it in on the initial lottery. But we are also from south Arlington.

No, waitlists went into the 20s all three times. The odds of clearing that for 3 siblings are insane. Unless....

interesting. I thought, for sure, I saw it in the course selections form. Might have been a dream. Thanks.

ATS was a great experience for us. But we were zoned for discovery and almost nobody goes to ATS from there so when we started middle school, she didn't know many people. And we didn't know the neighborhood kids. It took her a bit of time to make friends in middle school, but it did happen and things have been great since.

I haven’t seen much movement on the Kindergarten waitlist. Anyone else? Applied to 3 schools (ATS, Montessori, and Campbell) and we’ve only moved 2 spots in each school.

In top 10 on waitlist for ATS and Montessori but it looks like Montessori is only offering 5 seats? Who knows with ATS. Campbell is a lost cause for us (we are very high on list).

Sigh.

I think a lot of people wait for the deadline to accept/decline

Hold out for ATS. That's a low number and it moves over the summer.

Has anyone seen any movement for the HB waitlist for 9th grade entry?

We got into ATS with spot #12 over the summer. I'd hold out.

Wow, thank you, and you’re right - we are top 3 now for ATS!
