I have that type of name and I was also very concerned with giving my kid a name that was at least not in the top 10. I have always hated being one of many with the same name. |
| I have an old fashioned name that has not come back in style. Think like Edna. I hate it and always have and it’s rare enough that if I posted it here you would be able to identity me there really are that few under the age of 80. |
Are you a young fart, pp? |
| Louise. I’d rather it be Louisa, but it’s fine, except for certain siblings who liked to called me Wheezy. |
It's how Ludo said Sarah too! |
Agree; I know 3-4 Karens, all aged between 50 and 70 and they are the nicest ladies. |
Thelma, Doris, Althea, Joan, Ethel, Esther, Gertrude, Bertha, etc. these names all had a beautiful sound in their time. I think they will come back around! |
My name is Karen and I hate it. Also, I reject the idea that just because a person is kind it means their name is great. |
Just this morning I spoke with an old lady named Helen and told her my grandma's name was Helen. She said nobody's named Helen anymore so when she hears of a Helen, she knows that woman is an old lady. My grandma Helen has been dead since 1994, so I didn't want to say that. Some old lady names came back in style, and some didn't. Helen and Edna didn't. |
PP said to her it’s a lovely name, not that it’s great to everyone. |
Ha, I’m the Rachael from the first page and people often assume I’m Jewish also. It’s totally fine, just funny that you get it too. |
| Wendy and yes |
| Elaine. I’ve always felt like it was too dated and an old name. |
I have an Alice! |
I know several young Jewish Esthers. |
