Does weight loss medication take the joy of eating away?

1. How did you get your doctor to prescribe it? Did you have to bring it up?

2. Is there one that’s “better” than the others if you want to avoid constipation?

3. Do you feel full faster? Or just do t have interest in eating?

4. If you are feeding a family (of 5 for me) how do you manage that? Are you grossed out by it all?

5. Do these meds ever NOT work? Do you just try a new one if that happens?

6. Do you know anyone who has gone off one of these drugs and managed to keep the weight off?

Thanks!

I brought it up with my doctor. My BMI was normal but I had put on 15lbs once hitting peri-menopause. She was happy to prescribe based on that

I am on wegovy and haven’t tried others. There was a pill weight loss drug (maybe duromine?) that she also mentioned but said that it often makes people anxious - I have had anxiety in the past and didn’t want that.

I feel full faster but also don’t really think a lot about food anymore. I find it freeing. I don’t get grossed out making family meals at all

A friend of mine was on Ozempic and she said it stopped working. She is now trying mounjaro. I understand that these are drugs you need to stay on your whole life or the weight comes back

Ridiculous

I brought my weight concerns up any doctor
She was more than happy to listen and recommend
Only used Wegovy so can’t compare - do know Wegovy is for weight loss
Yes you will full full quicker and your brain kinda’ just turns off those food urges cravings and any any thoughts to over eat.
I simply eat - just less. Meds
Work so li f as you take it
I don’t know anyone personally who’s on Wegovy

Doctors will write the prescription, however, your insurance may not pay for it.

I have a pretty good insurance but it does not pay for ozempic, even though it is for diabetes.

The medication suppresses your appetite so you eat less and lose weight.

You feel full quicker. When you are eating less, your stomach does shrink. So, it does take some of the joy out of food and eating.

Would you rather be fat or enjoy your food?

I still enjoy food. But less often and less of it

OP here- update. I’ve lost about one pound per week on Trizep. I still enjoy the flavor of food but eat less. I still enjoy cocktails and don’t think they affect me any differently. I feel a bit nauseous at times but nothing unbearable.

It has taken away the joy of overeating. I still enjoyn delicious food. I've just reset what is enough. What I don't really eat anymore is too much junk. Like, cheese fries sound gross. That's not a bad thing. I don't drink more than 2 alcohol drinks ever anymore and never the 2 days after my shot. It's made me a lot healthier.

Same here. I actually feel really sorry about all the gross disinformation out there about this medication. I used it to lose 35 pounds I had not been able to budge after I hit perimenopause and had my second child. I lost them following a diligent diet and working out every day, but finally seeing the fruits of my efforts. I have always enjoyed food and enjoyed it throughout the time I’ve been on the medication. Like the post above, I still love eating, just not overeating. I still love drinking, just not drinking to excess. I love to have a glass of wine and some delicious cheese or sweets. Just not a lot. I love having a delicious dinner with my amazing children. Just not too much. For anyone who is on the fence about it, I had no side effects and and getting off of the medication slowly and I’m so excited about the lifestyle changes and the most of all is weighing less and being in a healthy BMI again. Win win!!

Sooooo much healthier!!!! Plus the effects it has on inflammation, brain fog, sleep and more are amazing. Studies are coming out about impact on dementia and Alzheimer’s. So many more!!

Same. I still enjoy food, and eat the things I love (well, for the most part -- I have gone totally off of Starbucks); I just eat a much smaller amount. In restaurants I either order something really small like an app or a soup/side salad, or I just eat half and take the rest home. I'm on Wegovy.

Well ... you were damned fortunate not to have side effects. And I wouldn't be on about "winning" until you are off of it for over a year and haven't gained it back.

Yes I agree. I am super thankful I had no side effects! It’s been so awesome. I was already doing a lot right though – counting macros, working out daily, eating lots of protein and low calories, and lots of fiber, and basically covering as much of the basis as I could. Something was up with me and I needed a boost. I think I will be OK going off of it but if I’m not, I’m OK with staying on a long-term dose. To be honest, I was headed toward Diabetes otherwise and possibly statins and other medication so this one at least has a lot of positive side effects at the lowest doses. Also thank you for cheering me on, my goal is also to keep the weight off permanently and hopefully be med free!!!

These meds have been a Godsend for me. I wasn't overweight when I started them, but my diet was terrible. Too much junk food, binge eating, always felt like crap. The meds have cleared my mind and eliminated my unhealthy food cravings and my general focus on food, when I can eat next, am I having a good eating or bad eating day, etc. They have NOT taken away my joy of eating or my general joy in life - to the contrary, they have ENHANCED my enjoyment of food and life, truly, because I can eat like a normal person and not a)deprive myself because I'm trying to be good or b) berate myself because I smashed 2500 calories in one sitting. I am eating way fewer calories now but much healthier choices. The weight loss is a bonus - I was at the high end of a normal BMI when I started, and now I'm fitting into my skinny jeans again. I am feeling amazing.

This is how I am too. I still enjoy food but eat much less - same as PP with ordering an app or knowing I'll have take-home leftovers if I get an entree. I do think my taste for some things has changed - I find a lot of fast casual food to be way too salty, or desserts to be too sweet and just don't do it for me. I've had some side effects, but fewer over time and nothing horrible. (Wegovy)

For me it means I don't ever crave food, fantasize about food, overeat foods. I am not thinking all day about what I will eat, wanting pasta, cake... I can just feel hunger and then eat something healthy until I am not hungry. I am making much more rational choices. So for lunch I had spinach, tomatoes and burrata, and it tasted very good, but when I was done I was done.

Same. But I've never really had a sweet tooth anyway.
