Daycare mandating masks for 2+

Anonymous
I would not be making this a big deal OP.

And Good luck finding yourself another day care right now.

This is nuts! I was all for masks at preschool during the pandemic with a new novel virus but not now.

Besides, the masks for toddlers aren’t very effective. My son was constantly sick when he started preschool at 3 during the pandemic despite strict masking.

When I saw the title I thought someone had resurrected a 4 year old thread.

I wish i had been right.

Why were you all for them if they weren't effective?

You've gotta keep up appearances, of course. You don't want to be labeled a Trumper.

They eat in groupings with masks off. They sleep in the same room with masks off. They don't mask while outside. What is the point of masking for the time that remains in the day.

Why are they sleeping and eating? Just let them play until it's time to go home.

Maybe they should send the kids home for lunch and naptime. You wouldn't want those kids removing their masks.

I agree- please tell me the name so I can sign up my kid! My 2 year old is great about wearing a mask and she has a bigger vocabulary than most adults so quiet down with your concerns about speech therapy-- her speech was well developed before 2

There’s exactly ZERO medical evidence for forcing toddlers to mask up. ZERO.

In fact it can be harmful, due to insufficient oxygen.

Well, no, not that reason. But WHO specifically says kids 5 and under should not be required to mask.

Actually, that's not completely correct:

In general, children aged 5 years and under do not need to wear masks. However, there may be times when caregivers will choose to put a mask on a child – for example, if the child has contact with a person who is at a high risk of developing severe disease or is around someone who is ill. Children of this age should not wear masks for a long duration or without supervision.

You don't know if another adult or child has serious health issues in that school or classroom.

It doesn't say that your toddler should mask if my toddler is close to someone with health issues. In that case, it's my responsibility to take precautions for my child.

Being exposed to typical germs -- in this case, a runny nose -- is how toddlers build their immune systems. Plus, many viruses aren't airborn and hand washing is more important.

That’s actually not true. The last paragraph is incorrect. I’m sorry. Many viruses are airborne, and immune systems don’t need to be “built”, they simply ARE. Viruses bring damage, sometimes lasting, to us.

Someone skipped immunology class. It's called adaptive immunity or the acquired immune system.

LOL... funny what people convince them selves of-- https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2022/is-the-hygiene-hypothesis-true

getting sick doesn't build your immune system-- have you not noticed that everyone seems to have pneumonia at the moment? guess what it's linked to previous covid infections! COVID-19 participants also self-reported more bacterial, influenza and mycoplasma infections, and 8%–10% of patients felt SARS-CoV-2-induced chronic diseases. My masking 2 year old who avoids day care thanks to all of you sending in your sick kids has had two mild colds in her whole life and never had a temperature above 100.4...childhood sickness isn't inevitable

Why aren't they making outside?

because the ventilation is significantly better outside! why is this so confusing 4.5 years in....much easier to avoid airborne illness outdoors. and no you don't need to kill your kids immune system to "help" them.

That's total bs. It's 2024 catch up on your covid reading. Masks do NOT deprive oxygen! Liar.

Link please?

It's pretty obvious. Compare the volume of air that is between your face and the mask, and the volume of air that you breathe in. Most of the air you're breathing needs to come from outside the mask.

hahaha what are you talking about?! do you recognize that there are many professions that people wear masks for 8+ hours straight and their brain is just fine? for any of you who have not yet destroyed your brains, and want a mask that your 2 year old will wear and keeps them safe, highly recommend the happy masks:
