Two-year-olds didn't effectively mask during covid.

My daughter just turned 2 in summer 2021 when daycares were still requiring masks and I can tell you all the pictures I saw of her class, almost every kid’s mask was hanging down, noses hanging out. she went through multiple masks per day due to licking them 🤮 it was zero percent effective, plus they have nap time where they can’t mask at all. I remember my son who was 4 getting norovirus and vomiting through/in his mask. I also think it was highly detrimental. To this day, and to be fair she is a 5 yr old with diagnosed anxiety, anytime she sees a person with a mask on she fixates and wants to know if they’re sick. Ugh

2 year olds also take naps together and napping in a mask isn't safe.

Tell them good luck, lol.

I would get together with other parents to complain to the daycare owner or board. And I would instruct the daycare not to put a mask on my kid.

I'd be concerned even if just all the adults are masking. Seeing lips is important for speech development and 2 year olds are absolutely still developing speech.

OP here. Wish this was a troll here but nope, daycare actually wants kids to mask in 2024. I talked to them about it at drop off this morning and they said they won’t force her for now but we need to try.

Appreciate the sound advice here and will be looking into other options for childcare.

As was discussed earlier, you don't need to try anything, other than trying to remember to pack masks for them to try.

There's no way the daycare workers are going to be able to keep masks on 2-year-olds. They might try for an hour, and then they'll give up. Even 3-4-year-olds won't keep them on.

Sick kids should not go to daycare. And this is 2 year olds. They wont keep those masks on anyway.

Some kids get sick while AT daycare. You never became sick in the middle of the day? And, having had a nephew born 2 months before Covid started, I assure you, lots of 2 yr olds will keep their masks on. Seeing everyone wearing them at daycare normalizes it.

Mask your child.

My kids were a little older-- 3 and 4 during the pandemic and that is exactly what I observed. But no vomit in a mask because it wasn't being worn.

Masking 2 yr olds doesn’t prevent sickness.

There’s exactly ZERO medical evidence for forcing toddlers to mask up. ZERO.

In fact it can be harmful, due to insufficient oxygen.

That's total bs. It's 2024 catch up on your covid reading. Masks do NOT deprive oxygen! Liar.

And having two kids that went to two different daycare centers throughout covid, I can assure you that no child in either of their classes ever consistently wore masks. By the end of the day at pickup, 75% of them had them off, with maybe one exception, the remaining had them under their chins.

Can you tell us about yourself? What experience do you have with 2 year olds masking?

Most of us that have experience with this have observed these kids don't mask well and still get sick easily.
