Daycare mandating masks for 2+

Sick kids should not go to daycare. And this is 2 year olds. They wont keep those masks on anyway.

There’s exactly ZERO medical evidence for forcing toddlers to mask up. ZERO.

In fact it can be harmful, due to insufficient oxygen.

No two-year-old is going to wear a mask well enough or often enough to be useful. Think about it- even if they wear them perfectly (and they obviously don't), they're taking them off for snacks, lunch, drink breaks, and nap time.

This.

Well, no, not that reason. But WHO specifically says kids 5 and under should not be required to mask.

2 year olds practically lick each other. The idea they'd mask effectively is absurd. Colds and such are just part of the deal with childcare. I stay up to date in all my vaccinations, I'll mask up in vulnerable or high risk situations (I wore a mask when I had bronchitis and needed to go to the clinic/pharmacy). My kid was a toddler during the worst of COVID and he definitely wasn't masking up at 2, despite watching Elmo put on a mask and putting a mask on his toys. We had some limited success at 3 but definitely not all day.

Not reasonable. I’d get a letter from my pediatrician stating it is not necessary.

People who are that concerned about their two year olds getting sick need to find an alternative to daycare

I would be concerned about the level of common sense generally exercised at that daycare.

Look, I’m a bit of a germaphobe/believe that masking can be really effective…but this is absolutely insane. I’d be looking for a new daycare over it.

Troll

No one cares anymore.

We all masked during covid. 2 year olds can do and have. Lots of evidence it prevents illness. All that said this is really weird in 2024. I had to check the date on this thread.

This, how is it a bad thing? If the staff get sick they have to shut down as they don't have caretakers. If a family gets it, it may be no big deal to yours but it could have serious consequences to theirs. This is common sense.

I would complain politely, once. And then do nothing - they supply masks, and do whatever. You take them off as soon as you see the kid. And that’s that. It’s probably one hyper anxious parent who is forcing this - the teachers know it’s dumb theater.

Oh honey, speech therapy wait lists were long way before that... you clearly have no clue and just using others as talking points. Keep your kid home if you don't want them masking. Maybe its life or death for a parent or teacher? But, wait you don't care as your wants TRUMP others needs.

Actually, that's not completely correct:

In general, children aged 5 years and under do not need to wear masks. However, there may be times when caregivers will choose to put a mask on a child – for example, if the child has contact with a person who is at a high risk of developing severe disease or is around someone who is ill. Children of this age should not wear masks for a long duration or without supervision.

You don't know if another adult or child has serious health issues in that school or classroom.
