BI is not a competitive WCAC program. SJC is the top program. Gonzaga, PVI, and DeMatha just behind them. O’Connell doesn’t have a ton of depth but does have some strong individual players. |
Yeah..has BI even made the WCAC playoffs in recent years (I think it's top 6 teams)? Spalding is also a great team but not WCAC. Prep will be strong as well...they have the top pitcher in the area (lefty), with the STA kid just behind. |
Wow, you didn't need to throw a bunch of hard working, talented D3 baseball players under the bus to make a point about this coach. |
| With the strong headline on this topic- is Prime Time bad- or was there 1 or 2 bad coaches or people who had bad experiences. How is it currently? |
| I think the consensus is that you can get lucky with a decent coach but the management/ owners are scumbags. Hope that you never have to deal with Skaggs or Berset. |
| Is there a way for your child to have access to college baseball without buying into the year round travel baseball system? Can you just play on your high school team and do lots of training in the side? I saw a college recruiter on a TT say that they don’t actually scout at travel tournaments and they only pay attention to HS stats. Why is travel baseball such a huge business if this is the case? |
Yeah. Your kid has to be a stand out. That's all colleges are looking for. |
For Baseball- this is not true. Colleges recruit more travel in summer / fall about 90% Maybe about 10% hs in person. |
SSSAS |
This is like third hand from my student, but apparently it happened during a fitness class during the regular school day and surveillance footage showed he was on his phone the whole time. He was fired as a teacher first, then as head coach second. |
I find it hard to believe because baseball is an inefficient “recruiting” sport in general except for pitchers. College coaches don’t pay attention to GameChanger stats and it’s not that it’s travel teams that get you recruited but rather playing at tournaments where there are maybe 10 fields all in one location and a coach can view hundreds of players in one five hour period. Now, if you play for a top program like Harvard Westlake or Corona in CA or even say SJC in the DMV, they are likely to trust what your HS coach tells a college coach…but even SJC has their Cadets travel program that will go down to GA to play. Also, everyone has their school season at the same time…Spring…so college coaches aren’t usually spending time trying to see a prospect play in-season because they are busy with their own teams. Pitchers are easier because you can view footage and just need to verify that if the kid says they throw 95…that they actually throw 95. Position player recruiting is much trickier. |
| Some of these private coaches are terrible too. They sell you a bill of goods like Pitchers Edge so you keep paying for their overpriced lessons when they know you are not going to get recruited. It's all for $$$. |
| The PG and Prep Baseball tournaments are not what they once were. Because of the portal and other NCAA changes colleges have moved their recruiting resources to the summer college leagues. For the vast majority of players you are better off going to specific college coach camps. |
Agree - this is the best bang for the buck. But... kids have to be sharp when they show up to camp and the reps they get in travel games get them there. I wish it wasn't this way but I don't see a better option. NVBTL games just don't have the level of competition as travel tourneys. To PP who decided that D3 sports is worthless - you're wrong. Employers value student athletes no matter the level. They're hard workers who know how to compete and win. The world needs more of these types of kids, not fewer. |
| Also what about playing D3 because you love the sport and want to play as long as you can? Sadly the love of the sport doesn’t seem to register for parents who just want to brag on social media. Maybe let your kid enjoy what they do. |
