I grew up in Northeast Ohio and T or T was always 2-5pm, the Sunday before or on Halloween.
In Northern Virginia, it is always 10/31. If your kids are very young or that is not convenient for you, there are Trunk or Treat events - probably this coming weekend 10/26-27 |
| This was also a thing in western NY where I grew up. Most towns did trick or treat on Halloween, but they each set their own trick or treating hours. The random oddball town might move it to the next day or something. We all had to check our local newspaper to see our town’s hours.. and if we had time to make it to the next town over as well. And yes, they still do it this way. I get why newbies ask what the trick or treating rules are here, I asked the same thing years ago. |
Yep, it is Central Ohio. This article explains how they came to that decision: https://www.wosu.org/news/2020-10-27/curious-cbus-why-isnt-trick-or-treating-always-on-halloween |
I have only ever heard of this being done in Ohio too. |
You know you are a legend in your neighborhood, and not in a good way, right? "That lady" or "That crazy lady" who had her kids panhandling in early November? |
It's not a government holiday, so how can "states" be discussing anything. The state doesn't set the holiday, we do. One important way, we keep the traditional date is by completely shutting down anyone who tries to move it. If your kid shows up on my doorstep on October 26th I will give them nothing. If you suggest it in public we will laugh at you. This is how we protect our traditions from idiots. |
And this is why every state, including New Jersey, makes fun of Pennsylvania. You have a chance to prove us wrong about you on November 5 this year. Don't blow it. |
DD was 3 when one day in Feb she came downstairs in her costume. She announced it was time for ToT. I tried to explain that that only happens one day a year. Then I gave up; what's the harm. I texted about 6 of my neighbors and told them what was going on and asked if they could please give her something. She got ziplocks of cookies, an apple, a pencil, and yes a few pieces of candy. She had fun and still remembers going ToT when it was so cold out. |
I'm sorry, you must be looking for DC Mormon Moms and Dads. That's a different website. |
Not in DC. It is always October 31. |
No kidding it’s not Utah but some of you are acting like the OP lost her mind for even asking about it. It’s always on the 31st so far. That can change. |
So cute! |
No it can’t since it’s not a set holiday in anywhere remotely normal. Hillbilly towns and Utah aside. |
Because some moron asks this every year. It’s a joke. It’s the 31st. Always was and always will be. |
This is a classic "Pittsburgh" question. Often trick or treating is NOT on Halloween - it's a local decision. Sorry that some of us are relatively new here. Generally, we find most people here welcoming of newcomers. Some, not so much. |
