Door-to-door trick or treating is always on Halloween day. Trunk or Treat events are often scheduled for the Saturday prior to Halloween.

Last year we went trick or treating the Saturday afternoon before Halloween. It was fine. There was still candy and the kids had a blast. Bonus - it was way more chill.
