Bill Maher explains the Middle East to Gen Z: Can anyone really dispute the facts?

Look let’s place the blame on the one truly responsible, Roman emperor Hadrian.

When you can explain why a host so obsessed with blindly defending Israel, demonizing Arabs/Muslims to the point of revisionist/selective history, talks about college students being the ones who need safe spaces and are brainwashed, yet only ever brings on rabid Zionists like himself or people with absolutely no direct knowledge of the ME to discuss it and glaringly omits one side from his constant h*** on to discuss what he doesn’t know, get back to me. He is the poster child for Zionist echo chambers.

The reason gen Z have become defenders of an oppressive regime is because we aren't allowed to talk about their core values that lead Afghanistan, Iran, Hamas, ISIS, Syria, etc to be so oppressive. So of course they don't know how they would themselves be treated in any one of those countries and several more moderate ones. We are pretending they have no common thread.

Israel finds itself in the middle of all that. Israel most definitely has committed atrocities in response. But when your attacked like Israel was, the warmongers take control. It's a vicious cycle, but we're not allowed to talk about one side of it.

So the gen z who goes to the West Bank is killed by the IDF. Guess type is “winning” in your book?

He’s a comic, and jokes get a free pass…even if you find them distasteful.

Why?

Because context matters.

It would be distasteful for an elected official to say that, but it’s not judged through the same lens when a comedian with a show focused on pushing the envelope on such issues says it.

Trust me: nobody wants to live in a world where comics are silenced—particularly the ones focused on politics and pop culture.

I guess what strikes me is that no comedian would joke this way about 10/7 and if you are trying to make a case that Israel is acting in a reasonable manner setting up the case dehumanizing others makes me think you are pretty biased to begin with.

I think it’s okay to joke about the bad guys…the terrorists.

This mess of provincial ignorance you wrote, is why you have no business lecturing Gen Z. You exemplify the profound arrogance that comes with being your garden variety, know-nothing who grew up with antiquated media telling you everything you know. Your brain chose to be Swiss cheese when it comes to history. From terrorism to fanaticism to invasions to "attacked" to deposing to propping up, etc...

I don't know why people like you insist upon sharing your limitations and thinking you actually know what you're talking about. You don't.

For once … just once … will you stop pretending that the world began on 10/7/2023?

ICYMI: Bill Maher quickly breaks down the Middle East using history and facts for the benefit of everyone—but particularly for Chappell Roan and the TikTok generation.

Sure, he cracks jokes along the way. But his bit is grounded in history and facts.

Can anyone really dispute it? I mean, can anyone dispute the facts without resorting to the lazy knee jerk “Zionist colonizers” rhetoric…which Maher easily explains is both silly and false.

Watch the clip and then let’s talk.

My god. I laughed - but I also got chills. He is so spot on. Recently, he’s said all the truths that need to be said. Bravo, Bill Maher.

I grew up as an American expat in the middle east. Some societies just don't tolerate freedom of thought, action, or religion. We shouldn't act like that isn't the source of their conflicts with their neighbors.

Oh. It’s the “burning bush” troll again. Psst: I’m not Jewish but I absolutely stand with Jews and with Israel over terrorists who want them dead.

well if you think 10/7 was just another battle in an ongoing war, nothing unique, let the war go on. People and babies died before that day, they died on that day, they are dying now, so I am confused by all the uproar for ceasefire? Why not call for ceasefire on 10/6/23.

This is the thing with snappy comebacks such as yours. Yes, anyone can form a "what about" respone to anything anyone says. But the responses will not always hold up to the logic test. Logic, not emotion, matters to some people.

textbook definition of ad hominem attack. Question, the person at the end of an ad hominem attack, how are they supposed to respond by being told they are stupid? Say oh yeah, I am, and agree with you?

The irony being that they're demanding Gen Z remain as ignorant and brainwashed as them. The only way to defend Israel is by ignoring every Oct 7 experienced by Palestinians from the moment Irgun, Haganah, Lehi, Stern Gang, etc showed up to bomb, kill, torture, rape, etc, which then leads to Israelis experiencing ONE Oct 7 as retaliation. Bill Maher sitting there lecturing younger people about being "triggered" and "brainwashed" for not thinking that an old, coddled, idiot boomer like himself without the guts to debate the people he regularly and despicably demonizes, is precisely why Zionism will join Nazism in history.

You don't get to tell young people they know nothing when you're sitting there in a circlej*rk with Bari Weiss and Bret Stephens.
