However putting Hogan in the Senate will shift the balance and I don’t think he will be able to get anything done. He’ll go from having a lot of power as gov. to having very little power in the senate.

He keeps saying he’ll do what’s right for MD. On most issues that would mean voting against his party.

Maryland is solidly blue, but it’s not a terribly progressive state, more moderate Democrats. It will be interesting to see how many of them will vote for Hogan out of protest since they already know that the state will go to Harris. It reminds me of how the polls failed to really capture Trump support in 2016.

Your claim here is that Democrats will vote for Hogan out of protest against Democrats.

Angela Alsobrooks is not a progressive Democrat. She's a basic, moderate Democrat. I think that people who say "Angela Alsobrooks is too liberal for me" are actually objecting to other things about her.

No one said that. They might vote for Hogan out of protest of other things happening because they are provided no other outlet.

Plenty of people are willing to put a gun to their own heads by not voting for Harris because they want to support people that would gladly kill them, that’s not in question, so why question this?

When people feel like they have no other choice they do interesting things. A lot of people feel that Maryland will remain blue for the Presidency no matter what so they are willing to risk voting for Hogan because he seems sane and he might bring some balance back to Maryland. To many it seems that the state is shifting too far to the left and they have no urge to find themselves living in the next Portland, San Francisco, or Seattle.

"the state is shifting too far to the left" and "AA is too liberal for me" both mean the same thing, and it doesn't have anything to do with the actual politics and policies of Wes Moore or Angela Alsobrooks.

PP acknowledges that may be the case, but notes that the further left actions of others, not on the ballot this cycle, could cause a protest vote to happen, even if it might not be the most rational choice.

PP does not acknowledge that may be the case.

The way I read it was that "No one said that" was an acknowledgement that the state shifting too far to the left was not necessarily indicative of Alsobrooks' "actual politics."

But the politics of the situation is not limited to Alsobrooks' actual politics. Nothing happens in a vacuum.

You're getting a long way away from what people actually mean (but aren't explicitly saying) when they say things like "AA is too liberal for me" or "the state is shifting too far to the left".

So you don't support Montgomery Planning's Attainable Housing Strategies, right?

Go start your own thread. The Attainable Housing plan has to be approved by our local elected officials in order to be implemented and has nothing to do with Alsobrooks or Hogan.

I thought the same thing! I did like her green dress, though. And I like the way she's doing her hair.

Voting for Hogan, but agree that she has upgraded her looks for the campaign.

Hogan should pack his carpetbag pull a Hillary and go win his seat in a R state.

He should move to WV and change his party to Democrat. He'd be the perfect successor to Manchin. They probably agree on 80% of their platforms.

or Rushern Baker.

There are plenty of people who "don't like" the elected officials from PG County. They give assorted dog whistles based on news from 20 years ago despite the fact that both Baker and Alsobrooks themselves have worked very hard to get rid of those issues within the county. But there are plenty of Marylanders who won't vote for someone "from PG County" and we know exactly why.

Turns out in AA’s case they are not dog whistles. She’s allegedly committed tax and mortgage fraud while she was States Attorney for PG County.

Larry Hogan is an extremist, vetoing so many measures that would have helped middle class people in MD. Here is a good summary:

Have you forgotten how much power Manchin and Sinema have had over the past four years?

You're assuming Hogan will vote against his party. There is no reason to believe that he would do that in anything that actually mattered.

My kids think the commercials bashing the other candidate are hilarious.

+1 He didn’t always stand up to Trump either despite his claims.
