Angela Alsobrooks: 1,650,912/54.64%
Larry Hogan: 1,294,344/42.84%

Mapped:

If it was a non-Presidential year without Trump on the ballot, I think Hogan would have pulled it out.

I find it WEIRD that she’s my Senator when she’s so obviously out her depth.

You're basing that statement on what, specifically?

Keeping in mind also that Garrett County is deep red, but Garrett County has a total population of 28,423. Compare to the City of Rockville with 67,297.

And what is your response to Hogan's extremely poor campaign? It was like he wasn't even trying. He barely met with voters. He was ill-prepared for the debate -- that should've been an opportunity for him to provide contrast with a less experienced candidate given his higher profile and experience in the governor's office, but instead Alsobrooks came off as sharp and prepared and he seemed wooden and out of touch. He did not have satisfying answers to very basic questions on what he would do when the interests and preferences of his state would conflict either with the GOP or with Trump specifically. He totally flubbed the issues of abortion and immigration to the point where I think he must have been under intense pressure from the GOP not to say anything that would contradict Trump even though Maryland strongly disagrees with the GOP approach on both issues.

I don't care if you like Alsobrooks or not but the idea that she only won because Trump was on the ballot is incorrect. She won because Hogan was so bad. He came into the race with significantly higher name recognition and visibility and he was a pretty popular governor including among Dems. He ran a very bad campaign and didn't appear to be trying. He would have lost to any generic Democrat.

However putting Hogan in the Senate will shift the balance and I don’t think he will be able to get anything done. He’ll go from having a lot of power as gov. to having very little power in the senate.

He keeps saying he’ll do what’s right for MD. On most issues that would mean voting against his party.

Maryland is solidly blue, but it’s not a terribly progressive state, more moderate Democrats. It will be interesting to see how many of them will vote for Hogan out of protest since they already know that the state will go to Harris. It reminds me of how the polls failed to really capture Trump support in 2016.

It’s actually not going to be close. Alsobrooks will get about 54%, hogan 44%, and the usual 2% voting for random people.

Maryland is done counting and final results have her up by almost 12.

The gap to Harris is embarrassing for her. Can’t even blame it on racism and sexism. What it is is that a lot of people in Maryland actually know what she’s about who got overwhelmed by the straight party line general election voters.

Harris was also a pretty bad candidate put in a pretty bad spot. This is a really poor showing for Alsobrooks. She's practically begging for a primary challenger in 30.

No one will primary her because she’s a Black woman. Maryland is going to be stuck with this below replacement level Senator for 30 years.

No one will primary her because they would lose.

That’s not true. Anyone in the Congressional delegation could primary her and win, except maybe April Delaney. The reason they won’t is because she’s a Black woman. There is still antagonism in the certain quarters of the state Democrats to Van Hollen because he bigfooted Mfume to the other Senate seat. And there was a lot of behind the scenes maneuvering to get Mfume to endorse Alsobrooks and not run himself. It’s funny how people don’t consider it odd that there were only two primary candidates and one of those two was a DGAF self-funded multimillionaire that the state Democrats absolutely did everything in their power to destroy his reputation.

That's what Trone thought, and Alsobrooks walloped him, too.

She didn’t do anything. The entire state party took him down. Every single one one of them endorsed Alsobrooks. And as PP noted they even went so low as to call him a racist. They were mad that he dared to oppose their chosen candidate and did their best destroy him. The message is now loud and clear. The party picks our leaders so long as the state continues to vote uncritically for Democrats

Yes, it is. Specifically, that a black woman beat a rich white man in the primary and another rich white man in the general election.

Here is a list of people that would have beat Alsobrooks in a primary if they had run:
- Mfume
- Ivey
- Sarbanes
- Raskin
- Brown
- Ball

I also wonder how people can imagine how exactly none of these people ran for the seat. Of course they were all scared off by the formidable Alsobrooks!

Yes, they were. She won big, notwithstanding some people's racist and sexist beliefs - for example, yours.

Alsobrooks would have beat Raskin is probably one of the more delusional opinions that I’ve heard in a long time.

In the real world, which is the one I live in, Raskin chose not to run.

You think he chose not to run because he would have lost? Lol.

I'm saying he didn't run. You can waste your own time in "If Batman ran against Spiderman, who would win?" speculation.

Of the people who actually did run in the primary, Angela Alsobrooks got the most votes. And of the people who ran in the general election, Angela Alsobrooks got the most votes. That is why she - not David Trone, not Larry Hogan - is now the new senator-elect from Maryland. Because she won, and they lost.

Agree and it’s pretty clear that Raskin didn’t run because he’s going to be a House guy for life, not that he wouldn’t win the primary. He just challenged ranking member Nadler and will be in charge of the House Judiciary Committee.

You're basing that statement on what, specifically?

She was not a competent County Executive.

You're basing that statement on what, specifically?

And how does it relate to being a US senator?

I think between his serious family and health issues, he didn't want to go thru a grueling primary and race. Very understandable -, he has been through an absolute lot.
