| all roads lead to Cornell on DCUM when folks start throwing shade at ivies |
ND is in the ACC. It's not debatable. The word "Athletics" has a meaning and again, it's not debatable. Just because you idiots don't understand it doesn't make it so. Stop arguing a loss. Here is the NCAA site. Ding, ding, ding... the frigging word "Athletic" is in the acronym. FFS you people are insufferable, how do you get through life? https://www.ncaa.org/ |
Like I said, this is a football thread. We are talking FOOTBALL and ND is not in the ACC for FOOTBALL. Start your own thread if you want to discuss general athletics and conferences. Go Irish. |
DP. ND lost to NIU |
Nnnnoo. Not going to happen. Students who want a top10 that is slightly more social than other T10s might pick Penn or NU or Duke over other t10. No one who was leaning ANY top10 will now be leaning Vandy. Vanderbilt is fine, but let’s be real: it’s peers are Emory, WashU, Rice,Georgetown, ND. Not ivies, not Northwestern, not even Duke(head to head admit data shows Vandy is never picked over any ivy or Duke , barring a free ride). |
Yes that was unfortunate. They're ranked #11 this week though. That's what I love about college footbal...kids are so unpredictable. |
Sick burn. ND booster doesn't like loosing. They just got throttled on this thread and are really mad. Pathetic. Oh...ND is in the ACC for athletics... it's not debatable |
Where can one find this type of data? |
From where was your data retrieved? |

App State beating Michigan was a bigger upset. App State, on the road and a football sub division team beat the #5 team while Vanderbilt is actually a DI school in the SEC.
Vanderbilt had some success in the past with James Franklin as coach until the rape allegations and he left. Like another person said, they will be back to their usual routine next week. |
Nice try. VT brings it down quite a few notches! Stanford and Duke are top 10, Stanford a top 5, nowhere near the Ivy League ‘s rank in the USA and especially not in the world. Only Stanford is ranked in the worldwide Top20. Last I checked 6 ivies were (all but Dartmouth and Brown). Even the top 4-5 in ACC are not anywhere close to the same prestige and power as the top 4-5 Ivy League. “The river of power runs from the Ivy League “ and all that. And I am a Duke alum married to an ivy grad. They do not care about sports: they care about intellectual dominance and power, especially internationally. |
Who likes losing? Oh and ND is NOT in the ACC for football. Football is one of their main athletic programs. So you are wrong. This is a football thread. Remember? |
Northwestern and Vanderbilt get the same kids. Duke students tend to be a little nerdier. And all three schools get students who are not fixated on Ivy League or bust. Vanderbilt, Northwestern, and Duke typically get a large percentage of their class in the early decision round. Which means the schools were their first choice. And all of those admitted students are more than qualified for any Ivy League school, but they clearly have different priorities and wants. Among 18 year olds, Vanderbilt more than holds its own against any school. There remains some generational bias from older people, but times change. And beating Alabama and having a fun big time sports moment is something that is very appealing to a lot of smart and social students. Watching your school beat Alabama on national television is far more exciting than yet another desultory game between Columbia and Penn. It's a vibe that's very appealing to a lot of people. And the difference in prestige or opportunities between Vanderbilt and Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, Columbia, or Penn outside of Wharton is negligible. A lot of students today would choose Vanderbilt over the Ivy League. And yesterday's game will only cement that. |
this will trigger the vandy bashers, but it’s 1000% correct - excellent and perceptive post |
No one cares except for Rudy so move on. |
